Job Description

HOURS - Tuesday- Saturday - 10am - 6pm (Temporary Full-Time up to up to December 31, 2024)Who We AreThe work of Good Shepherd is based on a fundamental belief in providing hope and restoring dignity to the most vulnerable members of our community. Our services include emergency food transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth; hospice palliative care; community mental health programs; and supportive housing programs. By integrating a Harm Reduction framework at Good Shepherd, we can decrease barriers to service and better support some of our community #39;s most marginalized members.This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Family CentreHow You Will Make an ImpactThe Rapid Mobile Case Manager will provide support to families staying in City funded overflow hotel spaces.

  • Duties include Assessment, intake, housing-based case management, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counselling, education, advocacy, accompanying families on apartment viewings, facilitating long term housing success, and linkages with other community services
  • Maintain safety and security for all families staying in the hotels by ensuring all overflow hotel policies are followed by clients of the overflow hotel program and safety plans are completed when needed
  • Work closely with emergency shelters and the City of Hamilton to provide timely access and prioritization of available shelter beds to families most in need
  • Possess an in depth understanding of trauma, violence against women issues, and harm reduction principles is required
  • Individuals will work from a strengths-based, trauma informed model of service and within an anti-racist/anti-oppressive framework
  • To observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes.
What You #39;ll Bring to Our Team
  • Minimum of 2 years #39; experience working in community outreach or emergency shelter
  • Post-secondary education in social services or a related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and the emergency shelter system
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Excellent written and oral communication, team building, negotiating and problem-solving skills required
  • Ability to work well independently but also cooperatively with community stakeholders and co-workers
  • De-escalation, conflict resolution, and non-violent crisis intervention skills are an asset
  • Valid G Driver #39;s license required
  • Fluency in French and/or a language in addition to English preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with diverse and complex health and psycho-social needs
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently in client homes and community settings
  • Computer literacy including Word, Excel
