Job Description

Big Wheels Diesel, a Division of the Little Red River Group of Companies (LRRGC) based in High Level, Alberta has a long-term opportunity for an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician who is an energetic self-starter.LRRGC currently operates businesses in heavy civil and home construction, forestry, firefighting, equipment rentals, equipment repair, propane distribution and retail.Big Wheels Diesel works on a variety of construction equipment, on and off highway tractors and trailers, light duty pickups, all-terrain vehicles, and oil field equipment. We are a fully licensed and equipped facility.Primary Responsibilities: - Inspect, maintain and repair a wide variety of medium/heavy and/or diesel-powered trucks, automatic transmissions, auxiliary mounted equipment, trailers and light/heavy construction equipment (examples include Cummins, International, Freightliner, Kenworth, Ford, Caterpillar, John Deere, Bobcat, Kubota, Toro).- Perform Safety and Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVIP), troubleshoot, repair and overhaul various components of these vehicles.

  • Perform quality control on repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure work meets manufacturers specifications.
  • Repair electronic and hydraulics systems.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to Apprentices and Serviceman
  • Complete and sign fleet logs, work orders and service records.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED).
Heavy Equipment Technician certificate or equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal (as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board).
  • Truck & Transport certification and heavy duty on-road (Truck & Transport certification) and off-road certification.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Valid Class 3 Drivers License (or provincial equivalent) and ability to obtain air brake endorsement (Q) within 2 months of hire is required.
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) license to be completed within 2 months of hire and sign off Government paperwork for CVIP vehicles.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic programs and create clear and concise work order job notes and reports of completed work.
  • Ability to lift 20kg(45 lbs) daily
Working Environment: -Shop environment with moving vehicles, noise, chemicals, and vehicle fumes.-Occasional work must be performed outdoors or within tight spaces requiring physically demanding postures.-Our business prospers within a team environment; our techs help each other when needed and share their knowledge and experience.Pre-employment Requirements
  • Required to have a standard set of mechanic hand tools.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of education and certifications
