DescriptionJob Posting Restrictions:
  • This posting is restricted to existing Journeymen Technicians headquartered in AB and BC.
  • This role requires technicians to enter and perform work at businesses, government, and/or health care facilities falling under federal and/or provincial public health mandates which demand that individuals be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This role will require individuals to be prepared and willing to provide proof of vaccination upon entering these sites. To be considered on this posting you must meet these requirements.
Job Posting Start and End Date: 2022-07-29 to 2022-08-12NOTE: The successful candidate will need to be based out of the High Level / Peace River area, and will be expected to service that entire region.KEY PURPOSE:Provide routine maintenance and trouble resolution services on field deployed communication equipment.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:Technical
  • Perform maintenance, repair and testing on all network elements, including environmental, microwave, data and IP transmission, fiber, DC power/prime power, HSPA, LTE, 5G and Wi-Fi base station equipment and remote access/ alarm management systems
  • Identify and resolve equipment problems in conjunction with optimization, switch, and NMC resources
  • Make technical recommendations on network support and resiliency
  • Plan, document and implement equipment changes requiring outages and multiple resource coordination
  • Install/upgrade, commission, accept and integrate network equipment
  • Collect and interpret drive test data
  • Assist Engineering personnel in modifying existing equipment parameters and configuration
Communications
  • Identify issues, respond to queries, discuss trouble details and provide explanation/assistance relating to network trouble resolutions directly with external / internal customers in a professional manner
  • Work with Operations Team & other groups to explain / discuss details regarding progress and issues
  • Establish and maintain contractor relationships for support and other maintenance activities as required
  • Share information with co-workers
Administration
  • Report and update findings in ARS (trouble ticket and work order systems)
  • Prepare time and expense reports
  • Completing as built documentation
  • Documentation of technical issues
RESULTS OR OUTCOMES:
  • Troubles are resolved and/or services are provisioned within defined time requirements to meet company quality standards, to ensure network reliability and to meet customer needs
  • Preventative maintenance routines and administration responsibilities are completed accurately and timely
OTHER:
  • Perform other functions as assigned which do not affect the value of the job
Qualifications
  • Accredited Diploma in Telecommunications is an asset
  • Applied Science Technologists and Technicians certification would be an asset (e.g. ASTTBC, ASET)
  • Working knowledge of Digital Wireless Communications, and Radio Frequency Networks and Data/IP Networks
  • Working knowledge of TELUS wireless products and services
  • Must have a Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Knowledge of HSPA, LTE, 5G and Wi-Fi Wireless Communications protocols and Networks
  • Knowledge of test equipment/software associated with Wireless Network maintenance, commissioning, & repair (e.g. Aglient 7495, Motorola 2660, Sunset MTT)
  • Working Knowledge of Harris Truepoint and Ericcson Mini-Link
  • Working Knowledge of NuRemedy, ticketing systems
  • Experience in the maintenance and field optimization of a digital wireless communications network
  • Experience in testing/analysis of Wireless network elements
  • Must be able to carry heavy equipment
  • Must be willing and able to climb poles, ladders and towers
  • Must be willing and able to work aloft
  • Must be willing and able to travel long distances in severe weather conditions to remove locations
  • Care and maintenance of company owned vehicles and equipment
  • Fully qualified Communication Technician Journeyperson (equivalent to current pay at wage step 8 or greater in Wage Schedule 1B, Appendix A)
  • Demonstrated effective decision making skills under limited supervision
  • Knowledge of network technology, architecture and elements and a strong understanding of their associated inter-workings
  • Knowledge of circuit wiring, transmission parameters and testing
  • Knowledge of automated provisioning, ticketing, testing and dispatch systems
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices/routines on network elements
  • Knowledge of installation and repair practices, policies and procedure
  • Must be able to operate hand and power tools and test equipment
  • Must be able to understand and effectively perform work in accordance with published work plans
  • Normal colour vision to work with colour-coded wiring
  • Must be willing and able to work various shifts as assigned (such as evenings, weekends and statutory holidays), based on business needs
  • Must follow safe work practices and abide by all safety rules and regulations
  • Must possess Personal Computer navigational skills
  • Demonstrated professional oral and written communications skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Self-motivated, work well with minimal or no direct supervision
  • Ability to effectively handle both favourable and unfavourable customer interactions
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and situations, take appropriate action, implement solutions or escalate as required
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaboratively with other departments
  • Maintain a high level of performance under the pressure of time constraints and a fast-paced changing environment
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Commit to continuous learning. Demonstrate the ability to learn and apply learned skills to related situations and complete and pass all related exams
