The City of Iqaluit is looking for an experienced individual to join our growing team and City as the Community Communications Liasison.Title: Community Communications LiaisonDepartment: AdministrationStatus: Full-time, PermanentSalary: $59,409.63 per annum, 35 hour/weekSettlementAllowance: $20,907.43 per annumUnion Status: UnionizedHousing: No Staff Housing AvailableClosing Date: Open until filledThis employment opportunity is open to Nunavut Inuit only.Reporting directly to the Manager of Communication and Customer Service, the Community Communications Liaison serves as a vital link between residents and the organization and must be able to communicate confidently in Inuktitut. They will work to connect residents with city services and support and coordinate city communications and customer service delivery. As an advocate for Nunavut Inuit and local residents, the Community Communications Liaison will work with city departments to ensure residents have a positive experience with City. They will solve customer service issues and participate as part of a team with other City Staff to evaluate and implement communications processes. The Liaison will help create material for internal and external audiences, including writing for the website, as well as, other social media platforms.The Liaison will assist in strengthening Iqaluit as an Inuit and cultural capital and will promote Inuit Culture in the workplace and the community. This position will also help the City meet its language obligations under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. They will be well versed in the history of Iqaluit and Nunavut and will assist with presentations to residents and visitors. The Community Communications Liaison will also assist in the implementation of the City’s Inuit Employment Plan (IEP) and assist with recruitment and retention of Inuit staff.The ideal candidate will hold a College Diploma or University Degree in Communications, Cultural Studies, Business Administration or related field with a minimum 2 years’ work experience in a municipal, Territorial or Federal Government or not-for-profit environment involving communications, programs or service delivery.In this customer-service orientated role, the successful candidate must also have:experience and confidence speaking to members of the public and all levels of fellow staff in both Inuktitut and English; excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills, professional writing skills and computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Suite, organizational skills with file management systems experience, and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Iqaluit’s history.Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.All relevant certifications are required at time of application.
