Successful applicants will enjoy a competitive salary, medical and dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, relocation privileges and opportunities for training and career advancement.Reporting to the Manager, Employee Relations, the Employee Relations Consultant provides expert advice, training and guidance to departments handling employer/employee relations, grievances and disciplinary actions which are critical aspects in the development and maintenance of a productive and harmonious working environment in Government of Nunavut (GN) departments, boards and agencies. The position promotes effective relationships between bargaining agents and GN departments, boards and agencies.Some of the responsibilities and expectations of the position includes: recommending, through careful research, appropriate courses of action in complex employee/employer interactions; investigating employee/employer issues; resolving grievances at the final level prior to arbitration; assisting managers in disciplinary actions; providing guidance to the interpretation of collective agreements and human resource policies; assisting in implementing strategies to promote a positive working environment; and planning and organizing cases for arbitration and Human Rights tribunals.The ideal candidate for this position should have a degree from a recognized university in Industrial Relations, Business degree (with a Human Resources or Labour Relations Major), Psychology, or Labour Law. In addition, a minimum of two (2) years’ directly related experience is required. Assets include an in-depth knowledge of user departments, boards and agencies in Nunavut and a good understanding of compensation policies and practices. The candidate should have good research and analytical skills and abilities as well as excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
