Community:IqaluitReference number:10-507521Type of employment:IndeterminateType of Employment 2:This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only.Union Status:This position is included in the Nunavut Employees UnionSalary:$65,244 - $74,038Northern Allowance:$16,008No staff housing availableThis employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only.Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services, the Hospital Maintainer (Maintainer) is responsible for the maintenance and overall function of the building and ensuring minimal downtime of specialized systems located at the hospital. The Maintainer ensures the proper and safe operation of the medical gas systems as well as monitors other infrastructure through preventative maintenance and repair in cooperation with the department of Community and Government Services.The Hospital Maintainer ensures that all relevant standards and safety measures are maintained to safeguard patients and staff. The Maintainer also identifies problems and deficiencies with the physical environment of the Hospital and ensures proper corrective action is implemented and follow up is completed. The position is responsible for calibration, documentation, and distribution of the oxygen supply to both the Hospital and the Community Health Centers of Baffin Island. The Maintainer is also responsible for the direct supervision of all outside contractors performing work at the Hospital.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma, along with (2) two years of related experience in facility environment. A related trades certificate would be considered as an asset.Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French. The ability to communicate in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages is an asset.
