This position provides ongoing advice and support to all departmental staff and central agencies in administrating staff recruitment, staff training and development, employee relations and disciplinary matters. The incumbent will also provide technical guidance and policy advice to all divisions in the department in the areas of human resources development and staff training.Some of the responsibilities of this position include providing correct interpretations and application of HR legislation, collective agreements, policy, processes, and Inuit Employment Plan reports. The Human Resources Coordinator also provides HR support to client managers in a wide range of HR areas including recruitment, staff movement and payroll transaction (e.g., transfers, terminations, and acting assignments). The incumbent also consults with employees on leave and attendance issues, and enters HR data into various HR systems, databases, and spreadsheets. The nature of work, high volumes, short deadlines, and sensitive issues all require excellent accuracy and strong client service skills. Creating and maintaining a wide range of confidential and secure HR files in accordance with the records management policy will be expected as well as researching areas of concern and extracting information from the Human Resources Manual, Public Service Act, Nunavut Employees Union Collective Agreement and other resources.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized college diploma in Human Resources Management, Labor or Industrial Relations, or related field along with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant Human Resources experience.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
