The Manager, Business Development is responsible for identifying and facilitating the development of business opportunities in the tourism and cultural sectors within the context of an economic development strategy, with emphasis on marketing and value-added business development. This position works collaboratively with other divisional directors, managers, other departments and with industry and project partners. The development is done through initiating, managing, and coordinating the Government of Nunavut’s participation in various strategic projects, which will require the incumbent to take an initiative to identify as well as getting strategic projects up and running and/or respond to private sector initiatives. The incumbent will provide strategic direction and expert information to the Director, Business Development relating to business development and trade that will have direct and/or indirect impact on Nunavut or Nunavummiut.The incumbent develops and coordinates training programs to assist entrepreneurs in forming or expanding viable businesses to support and expanding economy in Nunavut. This position maintains data to provide businesses with market information, trends, and literature outside Nunavut. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with other agencies which support the business development. Advise the Department on territorial, national, international economic issues, which affect business development in Nunavut. Provide analysis and advice on sustainable export development and trade promotion. Organize and conduct Nunavut business trade missions. Provide information and advice on investment opportunities. Monitor and assess the implication for Nunavut of Canada’s International relations and the international undertakings of the Inuit Organizations and other Non-Governmental Organizations. Coordinate Nunavut’s Nunavut’s business migration’ and manages Staff. The Manager, Business Development will provide direct supervision to the Senior Advisor, Business Development.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Degree in Economics, Business Law, Commerce or related field, along with minimum three (3) years of relevant experience. Excellent verbal and written communications skills is a must.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
