The Manager will provide strategic direction, leadership, and operational support in developing a range of solutions to homelessness in the Territory. The initiatives will be developed within the context of a framework for action on Homelessness and will result in a broader array of programs and services that will help to prevent and address the root causes of homelessness. The work will focus on providing homelessness staff with direction, guidance, and tools to increase and improve effectiveness of homelessness programs and services provided in Nunavut. Services will be targeted towards the prevention, reduction and stopping the cycle of homelessness.The Poverty Reduction Division has a mandate to support the coordination and reform of programs and initiatives to better support vulnerable Nunavummiut and to support community-based organizations in the delivery of community initiatives that aim to reduce poverty in Nunavut. The Division is responsible for developing and implementing Makimaniq Plan II: A Shared Approach to Poverty Reduction.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized undergraduate degree in social sciences or a related field, with three (3) years management experience that includes project or program management, financial and budget administration, and human resource management, and three (3) years of practical experience working in policy development, particularly in planning social programs.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
