Successful applicants will enjoy a competitive salary, medical and dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, relocation privileges and opportunities for training and career advancement.Reporting to the Territorial Drug Distribution Supervisor, the Pharmacy Technician works in collaboration with other health care professionals, performs activities related to medication management at the Qikiqtani General Hospital by collecting and processing prescriptions and other medications orders, preparing, dispensing, and distributing medications. The Pharmacy Technician, working with the boundaries of the legal scope of practice, is quick thinking, can incorporate knowledge of pharmacy law and Nunavut health protocols, with sharp problem-solving skills to improvise suitable alternative solutions within critical time limits to avoid disruptions in medication service delivery. Having a broad scope of practice and responsibilities unique to Nunavut, the Technician must be absolutely accurate in checking the work of the other Pharmacy Technicians/Assistants. Other duties of the position include maintaining appropriate medication stock in pharmacy and on nursing units by checking and replenishing stock. As well standby/on-call is required so that medications are accessible 24 hours a day 7 days a week. There may be opportunity to also provide pharmacy technician coverage at the Rankin Inlet or Cambridge Bay regional pharmacy sites.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through graduation of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program. The incumbent must also have successfully completed the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) Qualifying Exam and registration with a provincial or territorial College of Pharmacy is necessary. Two (2) years of hospital pharmacy experience is also required. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
