This position is crucial in ensuring that the division and the Government of Nunavut (GN) adequately respond to socio-economic monitoring obligations as agreed during major project development reviews which are carried out by the Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB). The Coordinator, in collaboration with other departments, governments, and communities, provides technical expertise on data collection, dissemination, and reporting on socio-economic monitoring obligations in accordance with Article 12.7 of the Nunavut Agreement. The incumbent will coordinate with several GN departments to collect relevant socio-economic information to fulfil government monitoring obligations.Socio-economic Monitoring is a dynamic process and requires the Coordinator to work within several different environment and capacities. Represent the GN in multi stakeholders environments. The Coordinator will take on the necessary research and preparation of briefings for the Department related socio-economic monitoring for major development projects. This position provides technical expertise on socio-economic data collection, analysis, and dissemination. Write annual Socio-Economic Monitoring Committee (SEMC) reports, utilizing both statistical, quantitative information and qualitative and/or community-based input, on project-specific and regional socio-economic monitoring programs to satisfy project specific requirements issued by the NIRB. This position develops terms and conditions for inclusion in NIRB Project Certificate, represent the division and the Department as required at academic and intergovernmental forums related to socio-economic monitoring. Also, develops primary and secondary data collection proposals for consideration by affiliated socio-economic monitoring groups/initiatives or the Nunavut General Monitoring Program (NGMP).The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized college diploma in Environmental Studies, Economics, Statistics, Business Administration, Resource Management, Environmental Development, Economic Development, Social Studies, Community Planning, or in a related field with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in socio-economic impact assessment, monitoring, and/or research.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in two or more of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
