The Manger of Victim Services provides senior level expertise and support to the Director of Community Justice, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Government of Nunavut (GN).The position is accountable for the development of legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and standard of care for victims issues. The Manager advises and collaborates with Community Justice, other DOJ divisions, other GN departments, and community stakeholders on victim needs and their issues. The Manager is responsible for developing and expanding programs to address the needs of victims in the Criminal Justice System and other alternative measures to the Criminal Justice System. The Manager monitors and evaluates existing and newly developed services and programs for victims of crime. The incumbent supervises subordinate staff and provides executive assistance to the Victim Assistance Committee and manages all financial obligations for the Victim Services programming. Another important function of this position is to provide public education and awareness about victims issues, programming, services and supports.Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities would be acquired through a degree completion from a recognized post-secondary institution in Social Science, Criminal Justice, or related field. Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in assisting victims of crime or related field along with a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or team lead experience in a related field is required. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in two or more of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
