Job Description

What will be your daily pursuit:Ensuring all guides are delivering high quality interpretive tour content in a professional and interactive manner, meeting our service goals and expectations.What perks can you expect:

What will you do in this job:
  • Deliver a four-day interpretive training program to over 50 interpretive guides throughout the entire season. Interpretive Training will be delivered at least eight times throughout season
  • Continue delivering interpretive training to supply interpreters with additional information throughout the season
  • Develop new interpretive training documents to better educate all guides
  • Observe and report both positive and negative items to specific department managers/supervisors and Interpretive Manager
  • Evaluate all Guides at least three times a season to ensure consistency with tours that are being delivered to half a million unique visitors a summer!
  • Support, coach, encourage and ensure that each member of the interpretive team provides an interactive and professional guest experience, aiming above and beyond our guests’ expectations
  • Ensure a memorable and positive experience for our guests and staff through implementing and delivering the standard operating policies and procedures as they relate to our service, operational, safety and employee engagement standards and practices
  • Deliver an exceptional interpretive experience to our global clientele
  • Ensure delivery on key performance areas, and relaying feedback and solutions to the Leadership team at the Columbia Icefield
  • Focus on operational excellence, employee training and development, service standards and consistencies
  • Assist Interpretive Manager with tasks in a timely and detailed manner
  • Assist with daily operations of the Columbia Icefield Skywalk when required
What skills and experience do you need for this job:
  • Organization and time management skills are a must, but a passion for making a difference for each guest and employee is the most important aspect of this position!
  • Must get excited at the idea of living and working in a remote (yet very social) environment
  • Strong administrative skills and a Class 5 driver’s license (clean abstract) are required
  • Willingness to upgrade to a Class 2 driver’s license with Q endorsement if necessary
  • Previous supervisory, interpretive guiding, and training experience required
  • An educational background in geology, glaciology, biology or an IGA certification is preferred
  • Guest service-oriented mindset and a passion for coaching and developing employee skills
  • Computer knowledge (must know how to use Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Ability to think on the fly and outside the box to solve problems with a positive attitude
  • Seeking someone mature, energetic, dependable and self-driven to lead the interpretive team
  • Ability to thrive and lead independently in a fast-paced, chaotic, high-pressure environment
  • Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods of time in both an indoor and outdoor environment. Be prepared to work in all weather conditions (snow, rain, wind, hail)
  • To honour our commitment to be “Always Honest” all employees must consent to a criminal record check
  • Must meet and set a strong example for the company grooming and appearance standards
  • Commitment to become an interpretive expert and ambassador through the completion of a multi-week interpretive train the trainer program (training provided upon start of employment)
  • Standard First-Aid or higher an asset
