Job SummaryA position is available for a structural engineer to join our component manufacturer channel. This person will be working alongside an industry-leading team of experts to provide highly specialized engineering solutions to the light-framed wood/steel construction industry. This position is based in our new state-of-the-art facility in Bradford Ontario. The design engineer will be actively involved in the design, analysis and detailing of structural building products such as roof/floor truss components, for projects ranging from residential buildings to large, complex commercial and agricultural structures. Duties and Responsibilities Provide engineering support to customers using MiTek’s in-depth industry knowledge and proprietary design softwareReview /approve designs as part of our software certification and component detailing servicesReview 3D models, framing layouts and truss placement plans to ensure accuracyDetail and approve structural connections (wood /steel)Provide front-line communication with our clients and end users of our products/servicesEngage in project-specific coordination with designers, engineers, clients, or other stakeholders as requiredInvolved in the design of site-modification details and reinforcement of damaged wood framesWrite letters of professional opinion to clientsOther duties such as technical research and product testing, as required Knowledge, Credentials and Experience Must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng designation) licensed to practice engineering in at least one Canadian provinceMinimum 5 years of experience in the wood construction industry, the Canadian light frame wood truss industry, or the engineered wood product (EWP) industryExpert level knowledge of structural framing practices as they relate to wood constructionWorking Knowledge of the building component supply-chain in CanadaDemonstrated quantifiable knowledge in the principles that govern the design of metal-plated wood trusses as well as all applicable design standards (TPIC2014, CSAO86-14, CSAS347-14)Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada as well as regional provincial codesExpert-Level software learning abilities with advanced knowledge of MS Office, especially ExcelExcellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
