School: Kugluktuk High SchoolCommunity: Kugluktuk, NUKitikmeot School Operations invites applications for the following position: Language SpecialistGrade: 7-12The closing date for this competition is: Open Until FilledStart Date: August 9, 2022The status of this position is: INDETERMINATEThe position is 1.0 PY (full-time position).School Description: Kugluktuk High School is a grade 7-12 school with a population of 245 students and 26 staff.Required qualifications:

  • Must be bilingual in English and Inuinnaqtun
  • Grade 12 Graduate or demonstrated proficiency
  • Candidate must be eligible for Nunavut Teaching Certificate ie. Letter of Authority
Desired qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Education Degree
  • Experience engaging students outside of the classroom
  • Experience teaching in Nunavut
  • Planning Skills (lesson, theme, unit, year)
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate and contribute to school team
  • Experience and / or training with current assessment methods
  • Evidence of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Experience and / or training in classroom management practices and the development of positive learning environments (eg. Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports, etc.)
  • Evidence of training and / or experience in an area of Balanced Literacy
  • Evidence / experience buidling positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents and stakeholders
Please note: Subsidized housing is not available.The salary for an Aboriginal Language Certificate holder ranges from $67,284 prorated/annum. to $81,207 prorated/annum. Language allowance, dependant on testing qualifications of $1,500 to $5,000 prorated/annum.The Northern Allowance for Kugluktuk is $22,042 prorated/annum.The Department of Education, Kitikmeot School Operations is committed to:
