Should you require any support or accommodation during the recruitment process or otherwise, please notify us when you apply and we will work to meet your accessibility needs.ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST - GOVERNANCE AND REPORTINGThe Environmental Specialist – Governance and Reporting works collaboratively with the team to ensure compliance with reporting and permitting requirements stipulated by regulatory instruments, legislation and approvals. They will provide on-site environmental training, awareness and direction to environmental staff and other site personnel.Key ResponsibilitiesArea 1:Environmental governance and reporting.

  • Lead the coordination and development of regulatory reports and applications, including regulatory requirements stipulated by Environmental Compliance Assessments (ECAs), Permits to Take Water (PTTW) and other regulatory instruments, legislation and approvals (i.e. Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) authorizations, etc.)
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements.
  • Update environmental management and monitoring plans to reflect operations and procedures.
  • Responsible for data management of monitoring programs.
  • Coordinate the implementation of and provide direction concerning ongoing environmental permitting initiatives as they pertain to on and off-site contractors, consultants and site staff and personnel.
  • Prepare environmental field reports/memos, compliance reports, and online reporting functions as they pertain to regulatory and permit requirements.
  • Manage monitoring data including data entry, database management and quality assurance.
  • Participate in meetings and field inspections with team members, consultants, and regulatory agency personnel, as required.
  • Responsible for the review of construction scopes against regulatory requirements, permit conditions, and Environmental Management Requirements.
  • Provide a professional opinion on matters related to the execution of environmentally sensitive scopes.
  • Monitor compliance to permit conditions and Environmental Management Requirements through field inspections, focus assessments and audits.
  • Liaise with Ministry of Environment personnel regarding permits, permit violations, permit modifications, etc
  • Develop procedures and policies and implement proactive measures and studies to prevent permit violations

Qualifications*Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves*minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Environment, Science, Biology, Water Management or other related field.
Work experience - Nature & Length
  • Minimum of 5 years of environmental and mining-related experience.
Additional qualifications - Competency requirements
  • Experience with the various regulatory reporting systems and platforms including Water Taking Reporting System and Hazardous Waste Information Network would be an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of Government Acts and Regulations.
  • Excellent skills in project management, technical writing, construction planning and execution monitoring
  • Good understanding of the environmental impact of mining and milling processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties.
  • Proficient with computer software and systems.
