Operating in a culture of cooperation and collaboration, we achieve our goals and objectives based on values of student-focused solutions, integrity of academic records and continuous innovative improvements.Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for advising undergraduate students on financial aid and related academic matters at U of T Mississauga. The Financial Aid Advisor will advise students on the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), the University of Toronto Advance Planning for Students program (UTAPS), grants, bursaries and other student aid programs available to U of T Mississauga undergraduate students. The Financial Aid Advisor will fulfill the role by interpreting academic award and financial aid conditions, reviewing and processing OSAP requests and appeals, developing and presenting workshops, promoting a variety of financial aid programs and awards, and assisting with the organization of scholarship and awards ceremonies.The Financial Aid Advisor will assist students with developing and attaining their education goals by providing support with financial and related academic issues, budget and financial planning, and by facilitating students in developing critical thinking, learning and life management skills and teaching the process of informed and responsible decision-making. Work is accomplished through appointments, presentations, webinars, emails and processing of student documentation.Your responsibilities will include:Advising students on financial aid matters, bursaries, budgeting and personal financial management by probing and providing a range of options and possible outcomes Interpreting and applying academic and government financial aid rules to ensure students meet requirements Providing detailed information to students regarding completing financial aid applications Verifying the accuracy of financial aid entitlements Reviewing and assessing financial aid appeals for acceptability Updating and maintaining procedures and protocols to comply with Federal Government legislation Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives Providing significant support to individuals in emotional distress during the course of performing regular dutiesEssential Qualifications:Bachelor #39;s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education A minimum of four (4) years direct student services experience in a post-secondary environment Experience in a financial aid environment advising undergraduate students on budgets, OSAP, other financial aid programs and bursaries, and encouraging scholarships and grant applications Experience assessing and processing undergraduate student financial aid applications Experience developing and delivering presentations Sound knowledge of financial aid and related undergraduate academic policies Excellent customer service skills - tact, diplomacy, sound judgement and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, including listening, facilitating and de-escalating Proficiency in MS Office and student information system(s) Attention to detail and ability to handle a heavy workload and meet deadlines Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems involving individual and group needs and to identify systemic implications and impacts on access to financial aid for undergraduate studentsAssets (Nonessential):Proficiency using ROSI Working knowledge of student ticketing system(s) e.g. AskRegistrar Exposure to and understanding of the Ministry of Colleges and Universities Financial Aid database (ONe-key)To be successful in this role you will be:Adaptable Communicator Diplomatic Multi-tasker Problem solver Team playerClosing Date: 11/01/2023, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USW Appointment Type: Budget - Term Schedule: Full-TimePay Scale Groupamp; Hiring Zone:USW Pay Band 12 -- $78,308 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $100,144.
