Job Description

This Individual oversees the department as well as technical staff, its processes and procedures, to ensure effective operations and business activities within his department.In addition, the Individual shall provide support to technical staff by providing the necessary resources, training and coaching so they can fulfill their responsibilities with diligence, and in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department. Daily completion of all assigned tasks will ensure accurate results on a monthly basis. The Manager will ensure that department processes are completed according to various timetables (KPIs and objectives). The Manager will ensure that support is provided to the team on a timely basis. The Manager oversees operations and projects carried out across multiple client site. As needs change, the Manager will effectively implement new methods, processes and procedures.
  • Manage staff and production. Make recommendations on staff requirements to ensure proper service delivery. Play an active role in the recruiting and hiring process to meet operational requirements. Participate in the annual evaluation of employee performance. Carry out annual technical audits of their staff. Support Coordination staff by taking job orders, issuing quotes, scheduling and dispatching inspectors for field jobs (i.e. Railcar/Vessel/Truck inspections) and providing daily updates to customers on the progress of their inspections, manage production by providing client services with scheduling of sample analysis and accurate information on completion dates to meet client satisfaction, monitors production and ensures optimum staff levels/shifts to achieve SGS-LR standards for production when needed.
Support coordinators in the management of supplies to achieve optimum production and cost effectiveness.Support coordinators with the scheduling and monitoring of man-hours and approves overtime/vacation accordingly, adding additional staff only where workload and financial performance can support it.Maintains production targets and takes proactive measures to sustain these targets.
  • Train and guide staff to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of the work performed. The accuracy and timeliness of information prepared is largely dependent on a properly supervised department. The Manager will be knowledgeable on all aspects of each job he oversees. The Manager must ensure the new employees receive the training required to fulfill their respective duties.
  • Continuous improvement of operations. Works toward continuous improvement in production and efficiency, delivery of quality data promptly, adhering to predetermined schedules.
Development activities.Visit existing clients to maintain the continuity of services and seek new business opportunities that are compatible with our business line. Responsible for timely sales contract management including project scope, rate revisions, change requests for tasks and contract renegotiations. Responsible for client follow-ups after project closure.
  • Internal control and Company policies. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all transactions processed in the department respect established internal control and company policy guidelines.
  • May be assigned special or related ad hoc projects from time-to-time.
Health and Safety.
  • Follow-up company health and safety requirements.
  • Prepare emergency protocol and any incident/accident reports as assigned.
  • Monitors and checks for completion of all daily H&S checks, monthly H&S meetings as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Over 5 years of professional experience in a similar position.
Specific technical skills:
  • Knowledge of Oracle applications is essential.
  • Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Must be creative, innovative and client focused.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and in French
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Leadership and management skills with the ability to lead and manage people.
  • Extended hours may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Hold a valid passport in addition to being willing to travel across North America.
