Sturgeon Public School Division is currently seeking Mental Health and Wellness Coaches to work in collaboration with classroom teachers with direct, in-class instruction to support Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). The Mental Health and Wellness Coaches will be key certificated members of the school learning team who will work with classroom teachers in the delivery of outcomes related to mental health, social emotional learning, and anxiety.The role of the Mental Health and Wellness Coaches will pursue Sturgeon Public School Division’s mission of creating safe, respectful, and collaborative learning environments where students are prepared to meet and excel at the challenges presented by the global community. The Mental Health and Wellness Coaches will share in our values of Excellence in Teaching, Shared Responsibility, Mutual Respect, Belonging, Learning Choices and Communication. Reporting to the Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator, this role contributes to the support, programming expertise and advocacy for children.DUTIES:Support a strength based whole school approach that supports positive mental health and wellness for studentsPlan and implement promotion and prevention strategies for mental health and social-emotional learning that are embedded in daily instruction and school-wide activitiesCollaborate with school teams to ensure a culture of wellness using a comprehensive school health frameworkWork with school staff, parents, and families to increase knowledge related to mental health and wellnessIdentify and facilitate access for individuals who require referral to specialized servicesEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:A valid Alberta Teaching CertificateExperience with Comprehensive School Health Framework, Mental Literacy and/or other universal and targeted school health programs and frameworksExperience in leading and implementing school wide programs and initiativesKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Effective program delivery abilities, positive communication, and creative thinkingComfortable with public speakingAbility to effectively communicate at all levels including students, community members, school staff, agencies, and health care providersProven ability to adopt a solution-focused, collaborative approach to challengesHigh degree of adaptability, empathy and creative problem solvingAbility to develop supportive relationships with young peopleAble to advocate for and enable othersUnderstanding of the community’s economic, cultural, and political environment and resources availableProficient in Microsoft Office programsAdept on a variety of social media platformsPlease note that all new employees to Sturgeon Public Schools are required to provide a recent (6 months current) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector included and a Child Intervention Check prior to the commencement of employment (from your local RCMP station).Qualified applicants are invited to submit a detailed cover letter and resume online at www.sturgeon.ab.caAll completed applications received by the deadline will be considered.Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
