Family support workerFull timePosting #22-30Position Summary: Reporting to the kotawân Director, the Family Support Worker will be responsible for a range of services designed to provide protective, preventative and support services to children and their families. This role will be responsible for working with families living on or off the First Nation depending on need, establish and build a respectful trusting relationship with various Agencies and Ministries in order to help families navigate the Child and Family Services system, advocate for children in care, participate in annual reviews and cultural plans.Duties/Responsibilities1. Critical to the position is an understanding of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation’s laws, values and traditions. Adhere to the Personnel Policy Manual as set out by the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation Chief and Council;2. Work closely with the kotawân Director, the Prevention Manager and all-front line workers;3. Always maintain strict confidentiality, at all times;4. Maintain confidential current, accurate and complete case documentation from the point of contact through to file closure as per standard and legislative requirements;5. Conduct all tasks with regard to any and all relevant legislation, policies and procedures;6. Maintain statistical data and prepare monthly, interim, and final activity reports as needed by community;7. Measure effectiveness of support and resources by participating in file reviews and program evaluations;8. Participate with program development and enhancement for the betterment of community;9. Develop and provide reports as necessary based on a program work plan, identifying priorities, indicators and outcomes;10. Perform effective family support services including, providing counseling, support services, education and referral services;11. Facilitate and participate in training, education and mentoring to enhance family and community development;12. Work with families to develop case plans to strengthen and enhance family relations and dynamics;13. Assist in identifying the need for family support services and possible resources available;14. Work within a case management team to develop family centered case plans with short and long term goals for individual families and ensure on going supports are available;15. Work with the prevention team to implement the principle, “It takes a community to raise a child.”16. Have an awareness of the safety of the child/children such as risk of abuse and neglect and communicate risk to the appropriate party as per the duty to report;17. Advocate for children to remain in community and placed with extended family when possible;18. Develop a plan for each child and provide support to caregivers;19. Shall manage a caseload of families that are involved in the family court setting;20. Work as a liaison and advocate for families involved in the family court setting;21. Shall attend all family court appearances to assist families, advocate for families and represent the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation;22. Perform other duties as assigned by the kotawân Director within the scope of duties.QUALIFICATIONS1. BISW or BSW with relevant Human Service experience;2 Knowledge of the developing kotȏwan Child & Wellbeing Program; Child & Family Services Act; FSIN Indian Child Welfare and Family Support Act;· Knowledge of the political, social and economic objectives of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation;· Understanding of the unique culture and traditions of the various First Nation communities across Canada;· Knowledge and understanding of the provincial family court chambers process;· Work experience with First Nations people with an understanding of issues encountered by First Nations people;· An understanding of the dynamics of First Nations family/kinship systems;· Knowledge of First Nations and generalist social work philosophies, values and practices, including community development processes;· Knowledge of case management and crisis intervention procedures;· Knowledge of child protection and children in care services;· Knowledge of ‘protocols’ with related agencies;· Knowledge of risk assessments and family assessment;· Effective problem solving, decision making, interpersonal and communication skills;· Demonstrated ability to be a positive role model;· Ability to work in a calm and confident manner to coordinate different viewpoints in determining the best interest of the child;· Working knowledge of PC software applications (MS Office applications, internet, database familiarity);· Willingness to work a flexible schedule of hours and must be willing to accept a rotation on the “unscheduled/standby/call back” schedule;· Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, a reliable vehicle and meet Muskeg Lake Cree Nation’s insurance requirements;· If you are the successful candidate, you must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Check.· Must be eligible to register with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.A competitive salary and benefits package is available.
