Job Description

Your West Cost Wilderness Adventure Awaits!Be an important part of the Nootka Marine Adventures team. You’ll be working among a diverse natural playground of rugged coastal mountains, rainforest and marine life. Newton Cove Resort, an all-inclusive floating luxury resort, is located in Espinosa Inlet near the Pacific entrance to Esperanza Inlet.This is a live-in position available at Newton Cove Resort, with an expected start of May 1, 2022.Summing it up.This position requires a well-rounded person with a background and aptitude in general/auto mechanics and maintenance who possesses the ability to adapt and prioritize in an ever changing fast paced environment. The candidate must be able to direct and supervise a crew and help less experienced employees complete daily tasks as well as work alone around the resort. Experience with diesel generators, treated septic system and UV water purification systems is required. Being located so close to the salt water, our equipment (weed whackers, water pumps, small engines, etc.) need servicing and upkeep and this person would help fix and maintain these various tools and equipment as well as monitor their condition.What youll be doing.

  • Daily monitoring of the power system, general operation and maintenance.
  • Daily record taking and scheduled filter changes for diesel generators, treated septic system and UV water purification systems.
  • Cleaning, basic maintenance as per the resort manual, trouble shooting and scheduling of repairs required for the resort systems.
  • Resort repairs and General “handyman” duties (docks, doors, locks, shower doors, toilet repairs, painting etc.).
  • Handle oils, fuels, solvents and chemicals in a safe manner that is consistent with environmental regulations and best practices and WHMIS training.
  • Guest services include assisting guests, monitoring the fire pit areas in the evenings, turning off propane fires at the end of the night, pumping boat fuel for guests, and other duties.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure that security and safety measures are in place at the resort.
  • Immediately report any incidents that result in property damage or personal injury to staff and/or guests.
  • Inventory and documentation of resort property.
  • Keep all areas of the lodge clean, tidy and free of hazards.
  • Perform emergency duties as required within the scope of your training.
  • Participate in crew safety meetings.
  • Adhere to health & safety standards.
  • Ensure safety and confidentiality of our owners, guests and employees.
Who you are.
  • 3 years’ experience in related field
  • Valid class 5 drivers license and clean driver’s abstract
  • SVOP and boating experience is an asset
  • Water safe and First Aid courses are an asset
  • WHMIS Certification can be provided
  • Mechanically inclined, conscientious and detail oriented.
  • General Handyman experience.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment and construction materials.
  • Ability to walk, stand and crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical tasks.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs repeatedly through a day.
  • Dedication to the guest’s experience and resort cleanliness.
  • Assist all resort departments and liaise with managers as needed.
  • Willing to live and work remotely.
  • All employees must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, or provide a valid exemption.
