Recognized for its commitment to supporting and expanding the local economy, the City has transformed its waterfront lands into a unique, interactive, year-round public space that includes over 85,000 square feet of commercial and community amenities.About the RoleReporting to the Chief Building Official, the Assistant Chief Building Official, Inspections is responsible for planning and supervising the activities of all Inspections staff engaged in building, electrical and mechanical inspections for the City. The Assistant Chief Building Official, Inspections provides guidance and technical advice to developers, designers, contractors, and other City stakeholders and assists with complex interpretation and non-conformance issues to clarify problem areas and work to resolution. The Assistant Chief Building Official, Inspections also provides recommendations and written reports on changes in policies, budgets, bylaws, and regulations for presentation to Council, and represents the City in various public forums.The successful candidate will have a post-secondary diploma or degree in building technology, architecture, and/or engineering, in combination with Building Officials Association of British Columbia (BOABC) Level 3 Qualification or certification, and/or membership in the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) and/or Architectural Institute of BC (AIBC). In addition to your expert knowledge of building codes, the preferred candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of residential and commercial building standards, methods, and practices with public sector experience, including familiarity with related legislation. The preferred candidate will have related supervisory experience, with demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, grounded in strong professional judgement and political astuteness. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
