Job Description

The North Vancouver City Library is seeking an empathetic, inclusive, and experienced Community Access Worker to temporarily join our team (18 hours per week).As part of the Community, Program and Service Development team, the successful candidate will work in the library to organize, promote and implement a specialized drop-in service and social programs for individuals who may be experiencing or are at risk of homelessness.Working collaboratively with other library staff and with outreach workers in the community, the incumbent will coordinate and operate twice-weekly indoor drop-in programming in the library, including setting out refreshments, facilitating activities in the space, and providing information and referral services. Through engagement with individuals using the space, you will identify needs and aspirations then coordinate with library staff, community partners and service providers to respond through referral, programming or service provision. You will also be involved in sharing your learning with other library staff, evaluating the service, and preparing reports for library leadership and funders.The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience working with individuals who are unsheltered or at risk of homelessness, including those with mental or physical health, financial, substance use, or food insecurity challenges
  • Knowledge of safe working practices
  • Social and cultural awareness
  • Sound knowledge of the resources and services provided by community partners and government agencies for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • Ability to prepare reports, track statistics, and monitor a small budget
