Job Description

Organization ProfileWith a vision of a vibrant, connected community, Parkgate Society (PS) creates opportunities for people in our community to live life better. We support this vision through the development of a unique and diverse blend of accessible low-cost and no-cost programs and services, created in direct response to community needs; primarily serving children, youth, families, and seniors.Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, staffed by over 100 dedicated employees, and assisted by many volunteers, our diverse and welcoming team are committed to making Parkgate Society a welcoming and inclusive community services organization.Position:Works closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to establish, cultivate, and enhance relationships with all members of the Parkgate community, including but not limited to staff, volunteers, Society members, facility users, funders, businesses, and community partners. This role aims to create an integrated engagement strategy that encompasses key aspects of marketing and communications, community programs, events, and community outreach, aligning with our mission to help people live life better. The Community Engagement Manager strives to keep the community actively engaged in all aspects of the Society’s work. Additionally, the position works closely with the Finance team to support fund development activities and as well as supervise the Volunteer Program to ensure volunteers are recruited, trained, supervised, and recognized.Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement purpose-driven and meaningful engagement tools and activities that create/strengthen the Society’s connections with the community, including staff, volunteers, Society members, funding partners, and local community members.
  • Work with the Executive Director, management staff, NVRC key staff, and community partners to plan, implement, and oversee the creation of meaningful and inclusive events that strengthen community connections.
  • Evaluate potential external partnership opportunities and work directly with the Executive Director to create and maintain these strategic partnerships.
  • Lead the Society’s internal and external methods of communication in collaboration with senior staff and the Executive Director; identify the organization’s communications needs, determine the best method for disseminating information to the appropriate audience, and implement these communication practices.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and staff to develop and implement strategic, meaningful messaging with the aim of increasing Parkgate Society’s brand awareness both internally and externally.
  • Work with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and senior staff in the strategic development of fund development plans for the organization’s financial sustainability.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of fundraising events, special projects, activities, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Work with the Executive Director and management staff to seek out and apply for grants and corporate sponsorships and maintain ongoing relationships with these funding bodies.
  • Develop and implement strategies to create and maintain a vital volunteer community, ensure volunteers are given meaningful volunteer experiences and provide regular and intentional recognition for their contributions.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a field related to communications, leadership, and community development.
  • Demonstrated experience with event organization and management.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially editing and writing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of integrated communications and online strategies.
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in organizational planning.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating integrated communication plans and materials, including online and social media.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office 365.
  • Experience working with WordPress, Canva, and Keela an asset.
  • Photography, and photo editing experience an asset.
  • Strong understanding of individual and community barriers to social inclusion.
  • Previous experience with NPOs and/or community development is an asset.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
Compensation:
  • $33.00 - $35.00 per hour
