Competition Number F18529PPosition Title Lab Supervisor - Costuming for Stage & ScreenEmployee Group FacultyPosition Status Non-RegularPosition Type Lab SupervisorSpecial AppointeeOthers please specifyWorkload Amount 1-2 sectionsDepartment Costuming for Stage and ScreenAdditional NotesWe encourage all qualified candidates to also apply for our Regular Part-time instructor posting.Location North VancouverWhat you’ll doThe Costuming for Stage & Screen department is a two-year full-time diploma program that teaches students the technical and creative aspects of costuming for theatre and film.Your main responsibilities as a Lab Supervisor in this department would be to collaborate closely with instructors to source supplies, ensure equipment is well-maintained, supervise students, and assess assignments.Other duties may include:

  • Keeping track of the stock of supplies and materials needed for daily operations and class projects, as well as replenishing them when required. This would also entail arranging the materials for the sewing kits used in the first and second years.
  • Supporting, when necessary, instructors and students in the classroom and with projects.
  • Working with instructors to advocate to students preventative maintenance as a method for upkeeping costuming shop tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Assist with maintenance of all machines, equipment, and costumes.
  • Arrange possibilities for the faculty, students, alumni and wider theatre and film community to rent costumes from our stock, as appropriate.
  • Participating in department activities including meetings, program planning, assessment, and review.
  • Assist with preparation for university events and promotional activities which may include setting up displays, facilitating orientation, and coordinating open houses.
What you’ll bringQualifications:
  • Diploma of Arts; Bachelor of Arts degree preferred.
  • 5 years of film industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of the organization and functioning of film and theatre production, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities associated with costuming departments, including the storage, organizing and upkeep of costumes.
  • Working knowledge of Western and non-Western Costume history.
  • Working knowledge in a range of costume crafts, cutting and construction, or design an asset.
  • Proven ability to teach adult learners and to create a learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
