Librarians at Capilano University are faculty members who leverage their expertise to help students and faculty become more skilled at library research, and this role will include providing support through research assistance and teaching. At CapU, we value active learning, outcomes-based class design, and workshops tailored to students’ needs. We welcome applications from early-career librarians; support and mentoring is available from the librarian team. A portion of the sections allocated to this role will involve providing coverage for the Tourism and Outdoor Recreation liaison librarian, including teaching. The role will also include staffing the Research Help Desk in-person and online via chat, along with AskAway. Other duties and projects may be assigned.Our Working EnvironmentThe Public Services Librarian will join a team of nine faculty librarians who work within a collegial management model. All librarians participate in collective decision-making related to work within the department, attend department meetings, and participate in peer evaluation, search-hire committees, and other working groups in the Library and across campus. Librarians collaborate with the University Librarian, Library staff, and partners across campus.This is a non-regular position based on available workload from January 16 to March 31, 2023. We have a working schedule of Monday to Friday with flexible start and end times. Our work is primarily conducted on campus, with some flexibility to split work between the office and off-campus locations.   • MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited university
Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience providing reference services to students in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience or training in instructional design, adult learning, or teaching
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Outstanding service orientation and public service experience
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing and diverse campus environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to Indigenization, decolonization, and/or equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Professional, reference, or teaching experience in Business or Tourism
