Job descriptionNchkaỷ Development Corporation (NDC) was established in 2018 as the economic development arm of the Squamish Nation - Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw. Nchkaỷs mandate is to develop, manage and own the active businesses of the Nation and was created to allow for the separation of business and politics within the Squamish Nation. Our mission is to generate wealth and create prosperity from economic opportunities for current and future generations of the Squamish Nation.This role is offered to members first and the broader community if an appropriate application is unavailable. This position will mainly work out of Nch’kaỷ’s Head Office.Position StatusThis is a Permanent Full-time position.Scope of the PositionAs the Vice President of Communications, you will be responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating strategic communications programs to advance Nch’kaỷ’s mission, reputation, mandate, and organizational goals.Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President will oversee the development and leadership of a high-performing communications team. You will be responsible for all strategic corporate communication initiatives and ensure a high-quality standard and innovation in the planning and execution of communications for Nch’kaỷ’s programs and activities that serve our key stakeholders, which include the Squamish Nation Members, Squamish Nation Council, Nch’kaý’s Board, our employees, as well as internal business leaders, other external stakeholders, media and public. You will also oversee specific project communications and the team required to lead those initiatives.A. Program LeadershipStakeholder Communications:

  • Collaborate with the Squamish Nation’s communications team, various internal and external resources, events, and digital programs to support campaigns, ensuring communications effectively meet impact-focused KPIs.
  • Drive reputation by proactive engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Develop accountable communications and branding strategies and tactics to create engaging, concise, and relevant content across various communications platforms to promote Nch’kaý
  • Collaborate seamlessly with Nch’kaỷ’s Senior Leadership Team to integrate communication, outreach, and education strategies across multiple platforms.
  • Oversee external stakeholder communications, ensuring clear and consistent messaging across all Nch’kaỷ programs and communications platforms. Including managing media requests, working with local media, and delivering messaging and media responses as required and approved by leadership.
  • Align with Government Relations, Regulatory and other teams on complex, multi-channel communications campaigns.
  • Drive multi-channel and multi-stakeholder communications programs in support of Nch’kaỷ’s strategic priorities.
  • Contribute to the thought leadership communications strategy within the organization’s broader narrative and develop and curate content to advance the conversation.
Internal Communications: Oversee internal communication messaging to ensure clear and consistent messaging across all Nch’kaỷ programs and communications platforms
  • Provide direction and support in developing and implementing a multi-channel internal communications strategy that leverages Nch’kaỷ’s technology platforms, driving efficiency and responding to the changing needs of our people.
  • Help bring our purpose, values, and culture to life in everything we communicate
B.Team Leadership:
  • In collaboration with the executive team, develop and build a communications team that will support and execute communication, stakeholder, and digital programs.
  • Work with multiple groups and stakeholders in a leadership capacity while providing an environment of diplomacy and inclusion, all in keeping with the values and culture of Nch’kaỷ.
  • Create, build, and maintain a positive team culture and work environment.
  • Develop KPIs for the team and provide mentorship and training as needed.
  • Manage and work with vendors and contractors as needed.
C. Other
  • Perform other duties as required.
D. Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor
  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
  • Lead and manages all Communication’s employees.
E. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Hold an undergraduate degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or Public Affairs.
  • An accomplished Communications Professional with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in senior communications role (s).
  • Proven track record in driving multi-channel, multi-stakeholder internal and external communications campaigns.
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal, relationship building, presentation, writing, and editing skills combined with proven experience developing executive messages, speeches, and briefing documents.
  • A dynamic thought leader who is strategic, creative, and collaborative with a keen interest in the trends and issues impacting Nch’kaỷ’s business and society and a passion for connecting the dots and driving meaningful and sustainable change.
  • Excellent understanding of digital communications tools and how to leverage their full capacity combined with superior project management skills and a proven ability to work well under pressure within a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong knowledge of the BC media environment and previous experience as a spokesperson is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of BC development, resource, and regulated projects is considered an asset
  • Previous experience within a regulatory or member-focused organization is considered an asset
  • Impeccable research, quantitative and analytical skills, especially in explaining market events.
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to organize and track overlapping tasks and assignments, with frequent priority changes.
  • Experience working with First Nations is an asset.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong people skills and the ability to interact with colleagues and senior management to maintain quality.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organization skills.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
F. Special Requirements
  • Willing to work additional hours as required.
  • Able to travel to meet the demands of Nch’kaỷ.
