This is an exciting time to join the District, as we embark on a range of initiatives to transform digital service delivery, customer experience, and our approach to climate action.Position OverviewA regular full-time opportunity exists within the Construction group for a Works Inspector III to perform field-level construction management work of a senior technical and regulatory nature. This position is predominantly an in-field role involved in the construction and maintenance of civil infrastructure including: underground utilities (storm, sanitary, water, etc.), roads, concrete, curbs and sidewalks, retaining walls, in-stream work (culverts, debris basins, etc.), bridges, and any other municipal civil infrastructure. Depending on the project structure this role can be responsible for any combination of: construction and project management, project coordination, contract administration, inspection, site monitoring, cost-estimating, budget forecasting, contract quantity verification, preparation of contract documents and reports, coordinating the work of subordinate staff and providing effective liaison among all parties involved in construction including the general public. The work is distinguished from that of a Works Inspector II by the more complex and advanced level of duties performed which require a higher level of qualifications and experience.The successful applicant will possess:Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure; along with considerable knowledge of the practices and methods used for inspecting, coordinating and regulating project construction and installation;Sound knowledge of engineering principles and construction best practices;The ability to determine quality of workmanship and materials, recommend appropriate corrective action and accept or reject contractor’s work; read and interpret plans, specifications and contract documents;The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, staff and public;The ability to function effectively with minimal direct supervision; and the proven ability to exercise initiative, self-reliance and sound judgement in accomplishing all required tasks.Qualifications:Grade 12 graduation supplemented with related training and experience in civil construction, and project/construction management. Significant field experience in the construction of civil infrastructure projects, along with experience working with external government agencies (Metro Vancouver, MoTI), third party utilities (Fortis, Telus, Shaw) and developers would be considered an asset. Technical courses, certification (or eligibility) as an MMCD Contract Administrator and certification (or eligibility) as a Certified Public Works Inspector 2 (CPWI2) are preferred qualifications. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and strong written and verbal communication skills are desired.
