About UsScience and Research Branch provides science as a service to the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (MNDMNRF).   • provide analytical expertise in data definitions, standards and information requirements
  • identify users information needs and requirements
  • assist clients and staff (data architects and modelers/data base administrators) in the development of data definitions, standards and data flow diagrams
  • assist in coordinating and planning the implementation of new and updates of application software
  • review provincial legislation and ministry policies to identify data/information management requirements
  • participate in post implementation review and evaluation, monitoring the quality and performance of applications
How do I qualifyTechnical knowledge:
  • You have knowledge of database design and development and information gathering methodologies, automated support tools, data dictionaries and logical design.
  • You have knowledge of data modeling, programming languages and data retrieval techniques (such as Microsoft Visual Studio, T-SQL and SQL Server).
  • You have knowledge of re-engineering and application software and database management software to develop designs for database structure and sections of applications to meet clients information processing and storage requirements.
Analytical, problem solving and evaluative skills:
  • You have analytical, problem solving and evaluative skills to research, interpret, identify and assess data management and information requirements.
  • You have ability to interpret legislation and policies and provide recommendations on data access and data information management.
  • You have ability to gather and assess information on requirements through interviews and reviewing clients business activities and processes.
Project management and negotiation skills:
  • You have knowledge and skills in project management to work on simultaneous projects.
  • You have negotiation and consensus building skills to reach agreements on directions, schedules and outcomes when working on projects and with partners or clients.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
  • You have well developed communication skills to interview clients and discuss information needs as well as legal and technical requirements.
  • You have ability to explain technical data and information management issues to non-technical clients and users.
  • You have written communication skills to write manuals, procedural guidelines and various information documents on data/information management.
  • You have interpersonal skills to work on project teams and to convey technical and administrative issues with various levels of staff or clients with tact and diplomacy.
Natural resources sector knowledge:
  • You have knowledge of one or more terrestrial and aquatics natural resources fields such as forestry, wildlife and or fisheries.
