  • Supports employee development, manages work performance, training activities and effective shift-to-shift communication.
  • Maintains working knowledge and current awareness to ensure adherence to Collective Bargaining Agreement [CBA].
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments and a variety of stakeholders throughout the Steel Mill.
  • Expected to be reasonably available to respond to calls during off hours.
  • Executes Healthamp; Safety practices and procedures as per the Company’s Healthamp; Safety Program and the Occupational Healthamp; Safety Act, including employee training and pre-job meetings.
  • Develops and maintains all relevant operating procedures, Job Safe Practices, Lockout procedures and confined space programs for the area responsible.
  • Leads daily and monthly crew safety meetings and improves the safety performance of personnel through coaching and training.
  • Identifies and eliminates safety hazards in the workplace (e.g., safety audits, housekeeping, etc.).
  • Develops, maintains and ensures the consistent application of ISO procedures and standards.
  • Meets daily with the team to review new requests and changes to planning status, priority, requirements, schedule, and job status.
  • Supports the achievement of operating objectives, targets and monthly budgets by coordinating area-to-area activities and ensuring effective communication with operating personnel.
  • Supports peers and cross-functional teams to ensure that decision-making optimizes resources and supports process continuity.
  • Ensures operating employees demonstrate and maintain maximum effectiveness in their role and are developed for potential future advancement.
  • Organizes and delegates appropriate work tasks for all employees under supervision on a daily, weekly and as-needed basis.
  • Attends weekly department scheduling meetings to develop and verify weekly schedules.
  • Reviews daily schedule in the pre-shift huddle, assigns work orders and ensures quality of work during execution and at work completion.
  • Directs and supervises the involvement of operations personnel in down-day activities.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a minimum three (3) year technical post-secondary degree or diploma OR a grade twelve (12) diploma and supervisory experience in a Heavy Industrial Environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and applying Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) language is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SAP is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving and decision making abilities.
  • Understanding of operational processes and continuous improvement processes.
  • Self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • This position requires the ability to climb and work at heights.
