  • Perform work related to Meter reverification, sample and overdue meter programs.
  • Select and order standard metering equipment for new services and upgrades.
  • Carry out meter installation, inspection and testing, within specified time frames of business
  • Verify the readiness of newly installed equipment to be placed in service and confirm that the equipment meets specified requirements and conforms to the governing regulations.
  • Investigate to identify and correct deficiencies in metering equipment.
  • Contribute to various work activities by performing or participating with the supervisor or other technical staff in carrying out special tasks such as testing for EMF, identification and elimination of radio frequency interference, harmonic distortion complaints, customer power factor load studies and stray voltage resolution.
Specific Accountabilities
  • Receive work assignments from Supervisor and Zone Scheduling with general discussion from Meter Relay Services.
  • Investigate metering problems and report resolutions to Supervisor or Meter Data Services.
  • Install a variety of standard metering equipment for new connections and upgrades. This includes MIST, MOST and bi-directional meters and as required telecommunications connections.
  • Ensure that metering installations meet the requirements of Measurement Canada and the Hydro One Metering Standards as well as compliance with Reg 22 04 and the Distribution System Code.
  • Utilize CM Evaluator, metering analyzer equipment and meter software to check the accuracy of installed metering.
  • Replace and service recording equipment, to survey and obtain statistical data on DS and customer loads.
  • Complete arranged for collections, disconnections and reconnections and unscheduled meter readings
  • Collect metering data on the Meter Information Form and forward to BASC for Meter and Relay Services retention.
  • Prepare electronic recording ammeters for metering of short term duration for defective metering replacement and load transfers.
  • Download ERA’s and interpret results
  • Download data files from meters as required by Meter and Data Services.
  • Maintain local inventory of metering equipment for appropriate stock level to meet current demand.
  • Handle, package and store metering equipment according to Field Operating Practices and Procedures.
  • Prepare and forward to Supervisor or Meter and Relay Services all pertinent reports on the work performed, recording data or problems encountered, empirical solutions applied and evidence to support that further work as required.
Selection Criteria
  • Requires knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and related mathematics as they apply to telecommunications, control and metering equipment and circuitry.
  • Requires knowledge of instruments and test equipment used in checking electrical and electronic equipment and circuitry.
  • Requires knowledge of instruments and test equipment used in checking electrical and electronic circuits.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in and equivalent to a Grade XII education in a secondary school plus intermediate related courses.
Essential Experience
  • Requires experience in the application of prescribed modules of the MEA training program.
  • Requires experience related to installation, commissioning, trouble-shooting and preventative maintenance of a wide range of equipment related to metering and telecommunications.
  • Requires experience with various software and hardware applications to transfer data files and perform testing on remote metering.
  • Requires experience with meter pulse circuits, proving customers with KYZ outputs.
  • A period of up to four years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
