Guided by our mission, vision and values, we build positive places for learning and working ... together at www.peelschools.orgWe are currently accepting applications for a Occasional Adult ESL Instructors for our supply poolInstructors teach a variety of English as a Second Language courses, including listening and speaking, reading and writing, IELTS preparation (International English Language Testing System), business English and a variety of English with special topics such as accounting basics, computers, citizenship and internationally trained teachers course.QUALIFICATIONS:Provincially accredited as an ESL Instructor by TESL Ontario.Ability to develop courses of study, unit and lesson plans using principles articulated as per the Curriculum Guidelines for the Adult Non-Credit Language Training Program and Keystone Concepts: Guiding Principles and Components of Program Planning, the main accompanying document to the Curriculum Guidelines.Deliver LINC Curriculum, ESL, FSL, CL and/or Sector Specific SLT (i.e. Computers, Customer Service, Accounting, Healthcare professionals, IELTS, Citizenship preparation etc.) instructions to learners based on their language needs.Experience using the History of Assessment, Referral and Training Systems (HARTs) for recording course data, learner data, ESL/CL/SLT course registration and attendance on the Grey Register.Assess learners’ language skill gain and progress in language proficiency gain according to the Canadian Language Benchmarks using Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) in all Adult Language Training courses.PBLA certificationAble to maintain records, artifacts and other supporting documents as required.Able to connect settlement needs of learners and in-house school social worker.Ability to collaborate with Settlement and outside Newcomer Services teams.Familiarity with Tutela.Proficient in computer skills and experience integrating technology in the classroom (i.e. Ellis, Pronunciation Pair, My Canada etc.) as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet would be an asset.Excellent English written and oral communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.Recent experience in teaching ESL to adult learners.Ability to work flexible hours and accept short notice call in to provide coverage for the absence of the regular instructors.Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment.First Aid training is an asset.AVAILABILITY:Classes are scheduled at a number of different sites in Brampton/Mississauga during the week (daytime and evenings) and during the weekends as follows:September through JuneMonday to Friday (9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.)Monday to Wednesday (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.)Saturday (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)Summer Session (July)Monday to Friday (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)Commitment to EquityThe Peel District School Board is committed to equity in employment.
