Support Staff Part-time Casual PositionWe require a qualified incumbent to administer the testing services offered by the Testing Centre. The incumbent may assist in registering students, distributing exams, monitoring the test-takers during the exam period, and tracking their time of completion. The tests can be both paper and computer-based. The Invigilator must be comfortable with the use of technology.The Test Centre Invigilator will be required to have a basic understanding of adaptive technology software, test monitoring software and video camera monitoring software. The successful candidate will also preventatively look for potential issues and proactively ensure a smooth and calm testing experience for students/clients.Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a fully on-campus work arrangement, working on-site anytime from Monday through Saturday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., except holidays. Please note the schedule changes on a weekly basis based on operational requirements.We have vacancies at various campuses: Brantford, Guelph, Downtown Kitchener, Waterloo, Reuter, and Cambridge campuses. Applicants are asked to indicate their preferred campus location(s) based on their ability to travel to the campus.Availability for shifts during the final exam period, running from April 17th to April 22nd, 2023 is essential.Responsibilities:
  • Provides instructions for each exam to the test taker; for computer-based tests, this involves access and login information
  • Confirms length of test with each test taker
  • Monitors the exam room while tests are in progress, typically two to three hours
  • Ensures no test takers are committing academic misconduct (e.g. cheating) and that students return all test materials
  • Will occasionally work with students on a one-on-one basis, reading exam questions, scribing responses, looking up the spelling of words on a word list or in a dictionary (if allowed) and based on verbal instruction from students, may have to draw diagrams
  • Greets candidates, checks identification against the registration lists, and assigns seating
  • Ensures test-takers adhere to the timeframe for their exam
  • Collects and accounts for exam materials at the end of the test session and returns them to the Testing Centre office, ensuring security
  • Responds to unexpected occurrences with professionalism, authority, and a calm demeanor; examples are test takers who show up for a test but are not registered or missing test materials
  • Escalates incidents and issues appropriately to the Testing Centre office
  • May assist with seat assignment related to software needs
  • May scan and print tests
Qualifications:
  • Three-year Diploma/Degree
  • Familiarity with testing procedures would be an asset
  • Previous experience working with test-takers would be an asset
  • Ability to multitask
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and solve problems using good judgment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of Adaptive Technology is considered an asset
  • Ability to learn new software quickly
  • Must have an excellent command of the English language in order to pronounce specialized program vocabulary accurately, clearly, and slowly
