With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.The OpportunityThe role holder will be accountable to lead projects ($10-15M annually) including the management of all activities from FEL 1 studies through AFE approval, execution and handover to the Project Owner. This includes management of detailed engineering design, procurement, project controls (Safety, Scope, Schedule, Quality, Cost), systems, construction support and management services for individual Projects.The incumbent will execute work using project management framework in a streamlined and effective manner.The incumbent will work in partnership with respective operations and support areas (reliability, engineering, environmental, legal, procurement etc.) to ensure efficient and safe execution of scope, schedule, budget and quality.The incumbent will assist in the requisitioning of parts & services associated with the Project, as well as to create work orders, operations and manage the Schedule associated with Project and Shutdown work in SAP. This includes collaborating with the integrated planning team to ensure work is integrated into the 7/21 schedule and major events calendar.The incumbent will work with Site operational planning teams to create the Master Schedule for the Plant shutdowns. Successful candidates may be assigned at any of our Ontario Mine or Surface plant locations.This position will report directly to the Superintendent of Project and Shutdown Management at the plant location.The role holder will become a team member of the Integrated Asset Management organization.Additionally, in this position you will:Execute approved Capital, Operating, and Period projects and shutdowns from FEL 1 through final execution including related commissioning/operational readiness. (12-24 month horizon).Supervise Construction Supervisors and other technical support personnel required to provide project support during project execution.Integrate work execution with Project Engineer(s) and Project Controls Coordinator(s) in line with optimized project and shutdown processes.SafetyLead PHRs, JHAs, MOCs, Lift Plans and manage the Project Risk registry as required for the safe execution of the project.Monitor and audit compliance to the safety controls, Project Safety Plan and other Vale Standards.Ensure adequate supervision is provided at all times execution work is occurring.Enter and manage I.M.s as required to document safety incidents, conditions and near misses through the course of the Project.Monitor and audit External Service Providers’ compliance to Safety Training Requirements (i.e. Norcat, Indoctrinations, ZES, etc.).Issue the Notice of Project as directed by the Superintendent.Supervise the safe execution of field project work (executed by external or internal resources) as required.Develop and implement project safety strategies.ScopeDevelop and/or coordinate the project charter and the scope of work, work design planning and the execution phase of projects as assigned (Capital, Operating and Planned Maintenance Period).Create work methodology for Risk Assessments (PHRs or JHAs) Provide construction coordination for Capital and Operating projects.Coordinate service contractor work.Create and manage Field Work Instructions and Contract Change Orders.Coordinate internal and external resources required to manage contracts and contractors (i.e. internal resources – with Vale Supervisors; external resources – with contractors).Coordinate and resolve contract issues with support from peers, Engineering, Contract Management Office, Safety Supervisors and Procurement.Manage contractor Lenel and gate access process for all contracts.Manage and monitor contractor work approvals, site access, quality, efficiency, qualifications and safety.Enter notifications and promote to Work Order, including Start Date, Due Date and Cost estimate, for all work being undertaken by the Project and Shutdown team in their area of accountability.Create operations, identifying resources and durations as required to adequately manage the project in SAP, highlighting milestones.Confirm time on operations as they are executed in order to monitor progress.Supervise project work (executed by external or internal resources) as required.ScheduleSchedule operations in SAP for projects and/or shutdown work being managed, identifying critical issues in achieving milestones and critical path.Add, edit or modify operations as required to address slippage, additional scope or operations no longer required.Manage schedule adherence, slippage and mitigation actions.Provide updates to Superintendent on additional tasks required (Field Work Instructions-FWI) and Contract Change Orders (CCO) to complete the project, along with impact to schedule and mitigation actions.Routinely forecast adherence to schedule, critical path, slippage and actions being taken to meet milestones and final completion date.Provide detailed Work Designs (task, JHA’s, materials) to adequately plan and schedule the work in SAP so that work can be integrated with the site scheduling activities.Lead the development of Shutdown Schedules incorporating all work to be performed during a Shutdown, coordinating all site activitiesQualityEnsure adequate contractor audits for quality, qualifications, compliance, invoice auditing are performed including the support from the project engineer.Perform regular field visits to ensure compliance to commissioning, quality and operational readiness processes.Perform end state audits for quality and operational readiness.Escalate potential cost or schedule overruns to Superintendent.Perform field visits as required to confirm adherence to project schedules and progress payments.TECO orders at project completion once final confirmations, requisitions, reservations are completeCostSupply required information, co-ordinate and monitor funding request packages (AFE/APC/PCR) and follow asset capitalization process with support from other groups as required.Manage, monitor and report on project/shutdown cost, cash forecasting and variance explanations with Projects Controls Coordinator.Review and approve Requisitions for services and Service Entry Sheets related to projects.Audit invoices and confirm adherence to contract requirements.Monitor outstanding work and approve Estimated Service Entry Sheets.Liaise with Service Procurement Group while managing requisitions and performing Technical and Commercial Evaluations.Liaise with Contract Management Office during continuous service contract scope development, demand planning and issue management of continuous service contracts as required for project execution.Provide updates to Project Controls Coordinator and Superintendent on additional tasks required (Field Work Instructions-FWI) and Contract Change Orders (CCO)to complete the project, along with impact to cost and identify and implement mitigation actions.Ensure project and contract cost estimates are properly calibrated against other projects and contracts.Verifying the planned costs in SAP are aligned with estimated project cost.Escalate to Project Superintendent all service and materials actual costs that do not align to planned costsAbout YouThe ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in engineering, however, candidates with a Technical or trades discipline will be considered.The ideal candidate will be a certified P.M.P (Project Management Professional).A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management related role is required.The ideal candidate will have demonstrated front line supervisory capability and experience.The ideal candidate will have preferred knowledge and understanding of VPS Technical, project management principles and strategies and strong project management skills.Requires detailed understanding of project management processes, tools and reporting requirements.Excellent oral and written communications skills.Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.Must be skilled in data analysis and problem solving.Must have strong organization and time management skills.Takes
