The senior engineer will oversee conceptualization of optical alignment strategies as well as provide training and mentorship to more junior team members.We are looking for a highly experienced Process Engineer with direct, hands on experience with process utilized in the creation of optical products, including, but not limited to, active optical alignment and high precision passive placement. The individual will work within a worldwide end-to-end product development team, to successfully develop and implement advanced Opto/microelectronic components, modules and sub-systems.In this role, you will be involved in process architecture definition, including optical assembly and alignment development and formalization of the process as part of its evolution to release-to-manufacturing.You will be expected to be methodical in your definition of the process architecture and its implementation and will utilize sound engineering principles for both process development and process verification. General process technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills will be vital in this role. Nature of Duties / Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize/develop end to end optical alignment and assembly strategies, focusing on methodology, sound device physics comprehension, electro-optical equipment requirements and equipment setup and modification.
  • Work directly with optical and microelectronic product design and development teams to provide process engineering solutions in support of new product development, with subsequent NPI and manufacturing support.
  • Develops active alignment recipes on automated optical alignment systems for free space optics, grating and edge coupling, utilizing lenses, fiber arrays, etc.
  • Provides sound methodical approach to troubleshooting and analyzing process performance problems. Supports new technology research and development pertaining to optical and microelectronic process solutions.
  • Manage projects and timelines in order to meet milestones on various customer projects.
  • Conducts research into complex engineering problems to develop new operating policies, capabilities, and processes.
  • Provide engineering mentorship to more junior members of the team.
  • Assists the Process Engineering team to deliver on accountabilities. Takes ownership for processes under his/her control.
  • Helps to create Process Assembly documentation.
  • Tooling and fixture conceptualization.
  • Performs qualification on new processes being introduced.
  • Implements and suggests engineering changes.
  • Researches, procures, and accepts new pieces of equipment for continuously evolving technologies.
  • Supports customer NPI builds within tight timelines.
  • Provides DFx type feedback to the internal design team as well as external customers to help optimize manufacturability of products as well as increase yields and throughput.
  • Educationamp; Experience
  • Requires a University degree in Engineering, preferably optics related.
  • 12+ years #39; experience in a Process Engineering role.
  • Familiarity with multi-disciplinary elements affecting optical devices and packaging is important; this includes an understanding of the active optical elements and their influences, as part of the overall integrated environment, test and calibration of the environment and the impacts of physical optics and coupling.
  • Experience with active optical alignment.
  • Previous experience with ficonTEC family of optical aligners would be a strong asset.
  • Experience with equipment programming (auto dispensers, pick and place machines, welders,etc.).
  • A background in the execution of process control is required.
  • Understanding of operating methodologies in an electronics assembly environment.
  • Experience with implementing Engineering changes.
  • Experience with laser welding would be an asset.
  • Experience establishing active alignment requirements and setup of engineering bench top type systems would be an asset.
  • Experience with Auto cad/SolidWorks would be an asset.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with DFM and FMEA would be an asset.
