Job Description

Specialist, Multi-Residential DesignRegular-Full-timeHuman Services- Housing Operations & Management ServicesPosition Summary:The Specialist - multi-residential Design shall be responsible for supporting execution of projects for common area and in-suite renovation and other state of good repair related Capital Works within the Peel Living portfolio. As a member of the Peel Housing Corporation (O/A Peel Living) Infrastructure and Planning Services team, the Specialist will provide technical expertise / guidance and oversee work including supporting the Project Manager in execution of projects, design development, specification and standards development, contract administration and construction inspection.Major ResponsibilitiesTechnical, Design and Specification preparation and Construction Inspection:

  • Develops design concepts and associated presentation materials based on research & resolution of technical/ design issues
  • Review and research emerging products, technologies and strategies to enhance performance and reduce maintenance
  • Develops construction documents for projects of varying scope with minimal supervision
  • Modifies and update designs based on review comments from senior staff
  • Evaluate, select and apply standard architectural techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment for minor adaptations and modifications
  • Write reports and specification covering architectural matters
  • Prepares architectural drawings using REVIT, AutoCAD, SketchUp and other modeling software for various projects including in-suite and common area renovations / retrofit and other state of good repair work
  • Support Senior staff and other stakeholders with evaluating site conditions and constraints, setting up and co-ordinating project schedules
  • Preparation of contract documents / scoping and integration with Engineering drawings as necessary
  • Supports execution of technical design assignments in a timely manner
  • Supports Senior staff with effective analysis of applicable building codes, by-laws and other regulations and technical documents / reports to which a project may be subject
  • Support capital projects and budget planning by providing technical recommendations for in-suite assets and common area assets
  • Inspect construction, renovation work routinely and ensure that the work is being carried out in accordance with the Contract Specification and requirements
  • Prepare detailed insepction reports identifying progress of work, issues, actions to resolve issues, deficiencies in work by contractor etc.
  • Monitor, analyze and make recommendations for design and construction contracts including monitoring service, invoices, and prepare Vendor Performance Reports as necessary
  • Liaise with multiple vendors concurrently confirming status of progress, scheduling, invoice concerns or quality and performance issues
  • Maintain Asset data for Peel Housing Corporation facilities and ensure proper documentation for warranty, maintenance and replacement / repair in Peel Livings’ database
Asset Management:
  • Support capital projects and budget planning by providing technical recommendations for in-suite assets and common area assets.
  • Review and research of emerging products, technologies and strategies.
  • Support and ensure that upgrades, improvements of assets are properly documented for warranty, maintenance and replacement / repair
Customer Service and Support:
  • Effectively communicate within Peel Living, its tenant and vendors, other departments and the public in a professional manner.
  • Provide general training on the use of building systems to site staff.
  • Solve problems, resolve conflicts, respond with tact and diplomacy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education / Knowledge:
  • University / College degree in Architecture or Interior design. Ability to become OAA member / licensed Architect or Technologist or a Registered Interior designer with ARIDO would be considered an asset.
  • National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) is considered an asset.
  • Have or working toward a valid Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) registration.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation ie. RTA, HSA, OBC, OFC
  • Computer literacy including data management and analysis Demonstrated understanding of how property management services support successful tenancies
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the fields of Interior Design, Architecture, or construction and working with various building trades.
  • Experience working at multiple locations with competing priorities.
  • Experience working on multi-residential projects is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the tendering and budgetary process
  • Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability communicating with audiences both internal and external
  • Demonstrating supportive behaviour in a team environment with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong problem solving skills customer service skills that are client centered focus
Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at Various Peel Living Sites and 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements.
