Community:PangnirtungSanikiluaqReference number:09-507014Type of employment:IndeterminateType of Employment 2:This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Pangnirtung and Sanikiluaq only.Union Status:This position is included in the Nunavut Employees UnionSalary:$74,018 to $83,985 per year, 37.5 hours/weekNorthern Allowance:Pangnirtung $24,054/year; Sanikiluaq $23,673/yearNo staff housing availableClosing Date:Friday, February 10, 2023 - 11:59pmThis employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Pangnirtung and Sanikiluaq only.Reporting to the Principal, the Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji is a community resource person and student advocate who supports, promotes and involves students, parents and the community as partners in Education. The incumbent is an active member of the education staff and School Team and provides a liaison between the community, home, school and the student. The Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji provides counseling and guidance to students, promotes the relevance of education in the community and fosters mutual understanding between the community and the school leading to self-fulfillment and success in life.The Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji position influences the following: enhancement of school/community relationships; increased cultural sensitivity within the school; increased understanding of the role of the school in the community; overall feeling of safety; acceptance, understanding and self-confidence in students and staff and resulting in increased student attendance; as well as more skilled graduates leading to increased self-esteem by all.The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, in English and Inuktitut. The following are ideal education and experience requirements for the position but are considered assets:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Five years of experience working at the community level
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Computer skills
The ideal training and certification requirements are also considered assets: Completion of Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji, First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Critical Incidence, Suicide Prevention and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French.
