Job Description

Parkland County has a temporary, full-time position for a Communications Summer Student working approximately end of April to end of August 2024. Under the direction of the Director, Communications, the Communications Summer Student position will assist the Communications department in responding to emergencies and supporting public events throughout the County. This position will also be responsible for writing articles, and taking photos for the Your Parkland newsletter, working on videos and coordinating posts for Parkland County’s social media accounts and website. The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • Enrolled in post-secondary education program with a focus on Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in planning and executing social media activity. Social media experience in a professional setting is considered an asset.
  • Experience with event management, photography, videography, and video production.
  • Excellent time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Must have a Class 5 Driver’s License.A current satisfactory Driver’s Abstract must be provided.
An hourly rate of pay of $23.19 to $29.01 with flexible scheduling availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Parkland County offers a total rewards package including competitive pay, access to our confidential Employee and Family Assistance Program, and 4% vacation pay and 4.8% statutory holiday pay in addition to your regular earnings.
