Job Description

Job Title:

  • Outdoor Early Childhood Educator.
Type of Child Care:
  • Outdoor Preschool.
We are seeking an assistant educator to join us. The position would be working Mon-Thurs 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.We are an outdoor program for children aged 2.5 - 5 years operating in local Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam parks. We operate rain or shine in all weather. Do you have a passion for getting children outside and into nature Do you love being outdoors While outdoor education experience is preferred, it is not required. Candidate must be comfortable outside in all weather. We offer a supportive work environment and provide onsite training to the right candidate.Qualifications:
  • Basic ECE or ECEA or ECE student working toward certification.
  • First Aid Certificate in Emergency Child Care.
  • Criminal Record Check.
Additional Experience and Requirements Considered:
  • Minimum 2 years of working in a preschool or daycare setting.
  • Experience in outdoor education and knowledge of Forest School Philosophy is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, co-workers, and families.
  • Ability to work in an inclusive program that meets the needs of individual children.
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork skills, good judgment, strong critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, carry out, and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children.
  • Can assist in safety management and risk mitigation throughout the program.
  • Be physically capable of handling such tasks as walking, bending, kneeling, lifting about 40 lbs., and running short distances.
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with our children, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Assist in providing play-based, nature-based programming with the aim to providing an inclusive and developmentally appropriate program.
  • Assist, contribute, and at times lead daily programming.
  • Exhibit good judgment, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving.
  • Be able to handle emergencies calmly and skillfully.
  • Work collaboratively within the team to maintain proper and safe supervision of children.
  • Engage with families to create a welcoming and positive relationship with families.
  • Undertake risk mitigation and safety evaluations for all parks.
  • Must work outdoors in all types of weather.
