VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENTVacancy No.: PFN-CHR-01Post Title: Community Health Representative (CHR)Pay Range: $18/hourNumber of Posts: 1Place: Port RenfrewEmployment Type/Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:00AM to 4:00PM (54 hours bi-weekly)Employment Duration: Up to 1 year, covering leaveStart Date: As soon as possibleApplication Deadline: 12 September 2021Pacheedaht First Nation (PFN) is a proud and progressive community dedicated to improving the health, safety, and self-reliance of its people by exercising their jurisdiction, authority, and responsibilities. The goal of the PFN is to preserve the culture, values, and language of the Pacheedaht people while strengthening community infrastructure, social wellness, community unity and self-governance. The PFN has four reserves on 174 hectares of land within its traditional territory in Port Renfrew, 80 km from Victoria, BC. The Pacheedaht people are estimated to number 286, including 100 members living on reserve. Port Renfrew is also a popular tourist destination for outdoor activities, such as hiking trails, exploring beaches, surfing, kayaking, camping, and fishing.Reporting Structure:

  • This post is in the Health Department of the PFN and will report to the Health Director
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The CHR program is aimed at taking a proactive role in planning, developing, and implementing health promotion and health education activities through clinics, workshops and initiatives which ensure Pacheedaht cultural values are maintained.
  • Motivates community members to participate in health programs and to assume active responsibility for improving and maintaining optimum level of health and wellbeing, and to improve community health conditions.
  • Provides health advocacy, referral and development services that benefit the Pacheedaht First Nation members.
  • Takes a leading role in developing and implementing new health programs and initiatives and helps with proposal development.
  • Exhibits a strong sense of personal integrity and character to mentor community members.
  • Team lead for booking appointments, as well as recommending additional services and/or referrals.
  • Assists in the provision of health services to clients and their families.
  • Handles other relevant responsibilities assigned by the Health Director.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • College diploma in the health sciences, nursing, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with a First Nation community or setting is an asset.
  • Experience working with computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Ability to lead and support social development service provision in a semi-isolated community with few on-site resources, and in many types of situations which could include crisis or conflict.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • A recent criminal record check.
