Atlantic Poultry Incorporated (API) provides high quality poultry products to customers throughout NB, NS, PEI and NL. We continue to be 100% owned by Atlantic Canadians and our goal is to maintain a strong and locally owned poultry industry.As the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Administrator you will support the development and advancement of Atlantic Poultry Incorporated’s (API) safety program. Assist in the development of new programs, processes, and procedures based on gaps identified in existing programs. Support Supervisors and Operations conduct risk assessments and work with the team to recommend strategies to control identified hazards. The OHS Coordinator will work with cross functional teams to implement best practice initiatives in all areas of operations and administration of API. The OHS Coordinator will provide input in the planning process and will be able to help drive the changes necessary to support a culture of safety.Reporting to the VP Operations, the OH&S Administrator supports corporate OH&S initiatives identified by API’s leadership teams. The OH&S Coordinator provides administrative and technical support to the organization.Responsibilities· Support and promote OH&S initiatives across all operations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland· Promote the health, safety, and wellbeing of all employees· Provide recommendations to support the improvement of API’s safety program, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements· Ensure incident investigations are conducted and tracked according to API policies and procedures.· Track, analyze, and report incident trends and provide proactive solutions· Assist with managing workplace incidents and injuries as required· Provide support to Supervisors and Managers on health & safety process and procedures· Support Supervisor with facilitating the health and safety onboarding process with new employees· Remain current with best practices, legislative changes, and industry standards· Maintain safety training matrix· Participate in the Joint Occupational Health & Safety (JOHS) Committee· Ensure corrective actions and lessons learned from internal and external sources are effectively communicated across all operations and followed through on· Support operations with facilitating the Emergency Response programs· As required, support Supervisor to conduct incident investigations from a risk perspective through root cause analysis· Track, analyze and report near miss, hazard observations and incident trends· Assist Human Resources with return to work plans and WCB as required· Continuously propose recommendations to improve internal audit program, for all OH&S elements· Other duties as assignedRequirements· Minimum 1 year of experience in occupational health & safety· Certificate or Diploma in OH&S or relevant experience· Strong commitment to health & safety· Able to work in a team environment; engage, encourage, and support others· Pleasant, outgoing personality, with a friendly positive approach to customer service· Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook· Strong presentation skills· Attention to detail· Self-motivated and able to work independently or as a part of a team· Strong work ethic and positive attitude· Excellent oral and written communication· Experience in the agricultural industry preferable· Valid drivers’ license and own transportation· Does not have their own backyard flock – chickens, turkeys, geese, or any pet birdsWorking ConditionsThe position operates indoors in an office environment where sitting for long periods of time is common.This role also supports operations, indoors in a farm/barn and/or production environments.
