Job Description

The General Labourer is responsible for planning and loading the blast carts and efficiently operating the blast machine and equipment, troubleshooting equipment repairs as required and accurately completing all required paperwork. The General Labourer is also responsible for moving material from the blast cart as well as setting up the paint booths and staging all materials accordingly.Main responsibilities will include:Cart Loading and PlanningAnalyzes the pieces to go through the blaster to appropriately plan the location of the pieces on the blast cart.Efficient and Accurate Operation of Blasting Machine and EquipmentEfficiently operates the blast machine maximizing output while maintaining the quality of the product.Troubleshoots machine breakdowns working with maintenance when required.Performs routine maintenance on the blaster.Identifies which pieces require hand blasting and efficiently/accurately hand blasts the piece.Crane, Rigging and FlippingMaterial Staging - Sets pieces in paint booth accordingly for painters to begin work, understanding straight lines, placement of materials for flipping, as well as maximizing the use of space available.Desired Skills and ExperienceRequiredCompletion of Secondary SchoolExperienceDemonstrated ability to learn.Skills, Knowledge and Competency RequirementsKnowledge of cart capacity and blasterAbility to operate overhead cranesKnowledge of Health and Safety ProceduresAbility to read and understand blast profilesA team player, who can interrelate and operate efficiently with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.Organizing skills and the ability to be flexible in managing changing prioritiesStrong Time management skillsWorking ConditionsAbility to left up to 50lbsWhy WaltersProfit Sharing and Group Retirement Savings PlanCertified as Great Place to Work Canada 2019 and 2020$3.00 shift premium3 weeks vacation (starting)Named as one of Canada’s Best Managed CompaniesEmployee Family Scholarship programGenerous Premium hourly rates for shift work positionsFlexible health benefits that work for you and your familyGreat culture, Family-orientated and community involvement initiativesSafety orientation & rewards programBi-weekly lunch programWalters Group is committed to providing accommodations throughout the interview and employment process.
