The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for receiving loads and coordinating them according to production requirements.Main responsibilities will include:
  • Receive and coordination of structural steel loads and material.
  • Identify the pieces provided and select the appropriate trailer based on transportation requirements.
  • Receive the trailers taking into consideration size/length, weights of the pieces and Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and regulations.
  • Rig, hoist and move material safely off the trailer. Operate cranes to safely and efficiently place steel pieces into production area.
  • Remove dunnage to properly handle the pieces.
  • Ensure safe work practices are adhered to and appropriate PPE is worn at all times.
  • Ensure all paperwork matches the Bill of Lading.
  • Identify the piece mark of each piece being loaded and itemize the piece in the correct column accurately identifying which trailer that piece went on. Ensure all pieces on the load are accounted for in the paperwork associated with that trailer.
  • Trains junior loaders on safe and efficient crane, rigging and load building techniques.

Skills, knowledge and Competency Requirements
  • Knowledge of transportation requirements and load receiving including proper blocking and dunnage placement.
  • Understanding of weight balance and center of gravity
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures
  • Accurate recordkeeping
  • Strong time management skills
Working Conditions
  • Working indoors and outdoors year round
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
