Job Description

Operations Supervisors with Cando provide overall guidance, leadership and direction to the employees at industrial sites and are the primary daily contact for the customer, ensuring customer needs are met.Roles and ResponsibilitiesPlanning & Service Delivery

  • Responsible for the operational performance of the site including railcar switching, railcar inspection and repair, and railcar cleaning
  • Work alongside the crews in conducting the various operations at the site
  • Ensures the department is providing service in keeping with Candos vision and the customers requirements
  • Develops daily and weekly operating plans for the team ensuring customer needs are being met
  • Monitor safety programs ensuring employees are meeting or exceeding company and customer expectations and policies and procedures are being followed
Leadership & Employee Development
  • Influences and inspires others to achieve company objectives
  • Builds and maintains positive and healthy relationships
  • Leads others in adapting to innovative work environments and ensures awareness of site initiatives, decisions, and policies, are communicated
  • Provides for the delivery of training and developmental requirements related to the site
Management and Administration
  • Assists in managing monthly operating budgets, service plans, personnel development plans, and resource requirements for the site
  • Interprets legislation, regulations, policies, etc. as they relate to the sites services and employees
  • Manages the relationship between Cando and its customer
  • Completes necessary paperwork and submits to corporate office in a timely manner taking into account the importance of deadlines
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with people of all backgrounds, levels of comprehension including managers, employees, customers, and the public
  • Possesses strong leadership, organization and planning skills
  • Demonstrates initiative to work with others to foster a respectful workplace; creates a work environment that is open to maintaining positive relationships; empowers individuals and teams to set and accomplish goals with objectives
  • Understands effective cost monitoring, control, reporting, and bottom-line profitability and accountability
  • Knowledge of equipment, systems, standard operating practices, and CROR would be an asset.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement in providing information to internal or external customers in a courteous and tactful manner with regard to sensitive or confidential issues
  • Ability to handle a diverse range of responsibilities in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Proficient in the use of computer equipment, operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet and database software
  • Hold and maintain a valid drivers license, and meet all site security and safety requirements/certifications
  • Pass and maintain the required medical evaluation for safety critical positions including clear drug and alcohol testing
  • Be willing and able to work in all weather conditions during day and night shifts at a site that is operational 24 hours per day, 365 days per year
Education & Experience
  • Experience in positions of increasing supervisor responsibility in a railway, construction, or heavy equipment environment
  • Knowledge of railcar switching procedures and rail car repair techniques an asset
  • Experience with behaviour-based safety programs
