What do you offerThe Assistant Manager Aquatics reports to the General Manager. They provide leadership for the operation Health, Fitness, Aquatics Operations, ensuring safe and quality programs and services for all its members and participants. You will champion your base Centre to ensure the satisfaction of staff, volunteers and members alike. In addition to this you will have a prime role whereby you are the specialist in the key business area, such area of Aquatics.The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, values, and participant outcomes. Some of the tasks of this position include:
  • Provides direct supervision and some coaching to the on-site teams, including instructors, cleaning staff, membership staff, and program coordinators and supervisors.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of operations and systems
  • Responsible for the safe operation of a Health Fitness, Aquatics Centre
  • Assist in volunteer/staff development and recruitment
  • Provides overall Centre leadership; responsible for the day-to-day delivery of excellent customer service for members and a safe working environment for all staff
  • Responsible for submitting accurate and timely reports to the General Manager in regard to key revenue and expense areas
  • Responsible for ensuring your Centre is suitably staffed and is a clean and safe environment
  • Acts as the first line of “management” for all customer/member inquiries
  • Be the “Manager on Duty” at prescribed times, and lead by example
What qualifications and abilities are we looking forAt the YMCA of the National Capital Region, we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals.The successful candidate will have the following:Education
  • College or University degree in a related field
Language
  • Fluency in English, oral and written required
  • Other languages an asset
Experience, Abilities & Skills
  • Maintains current Advanced aquatic awards including Instructor Trainer and Examiner Status including Red Cross and Lifesaving Society Instructor, NLS, YMCA Instructor
  • minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated administrative and program development experience in aquatics including supervisory experience
  • 2 plus years experience in a middle management position
  • 5 years experience with the charitable or non-profit sector. The YMCA/YWCA experience would be considered an asset
  • have experience in a results-oriented environment
  • previous experience of overseeing at least one recreation program delivery area, e.g. aquatics, children’s programs (CYF), adult fitness (ISC), Memberships, Sales and Services (MSS)
  • helped implement staff/ volunteer recruitment and development
  • skills in implementing and following procedures and policies in
  • Client / Membership relationships and Management
  • Human Resources Management,
  • Financial Management,
  • Health and Safety,
  • Emergency Procedures,
  • Facility Management.
  • experience of a swimming pool environment would be an asset
  • computer knowledge in MS Office using Word and Excel
  • experience with Membership Software, Legend would be an asset
  • Ability to monitor expenses, e.g. staffing and ensure budgets are met
  • Understand the needs of members and how to ensure the best quality of service delivery
Additional Requirements
  • Applicant must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons and submit the certificate of completion.
