Job Description

Claystone Waste Ltd. is a western Canadian leader in waste management. Their vision is to develop innovative solutions for the safe disposal of waste and enhance the quality of life for the people in the communities that they serve.Claystone Waste Ltd. was established as a municipally controlled corporation in 2020 by the Town of Tofield, the Town of Viking, the Village of Ryley, the Village of Holden and Beaver County. Claystone Waste previously operated as Beaver Municipal Solutions and the Beaver Regional Waste Management Services Commission. Their landfill has been in operation since 1992 to service the waste management needs of communities within Beaver County, Alberta. The size and complexity of their operations have grown since that time, and now Claystone Waste is a western Canadian leader in waste management servicing a diverse range of municipal and industrial customers.They have enjoyed steady growth and financial success despite the persistent economic recession in Alberta and their commitment to all of their stakeholders; employees, residents, and municipal shareholders, remains a top priority.We are searching for a Financial AP/AR Analyst for a contract position (4 months). This a Work From Home remote position - Claystone will supply the necessary hardware, internet connectivity is required. There may certain days where travel to the main administrative building in Ryley is required - this will be scheduled by the Finance Supervisor.Position Summary: The Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivables (AP/AR) Analyst will be an integral member of the Claystone Waste finance and accounting team and to support the day-to-day operation of Claystone Waste’s Finance and Accounting team while reporting to the Financial Controller. The position performs moderately difficult to complex administrative and accounting support tasks for the various managers, department and/or business units primarily in the following areas:

  • Cash management
  • Accounts receivable/payable processing and support
  • Vendor management and payments
  • Account collections and customer support
  • Posting transactions, creating journal entries and developing back-up supporting information
  • Financial accounting support for Claystone leadership
  • General support for documentation and administration processes, as needed
This role collaborates with and supports the Accountant position with financial and business data entry, compilation and reporting, operation of office and computer equipment, preparation and filing of business reports and records as well as office communications with internal and external audiences.Responsibilities and Activities: The AP/AR Analyst duty assignment include but are not limited to:
  • Invoicing and assisting in customer service and collection activities, negotiate and resolve issues to expedite payment
  • Accounts payable encoding and payments
  • Data entry to spreadsheets and various ERP system modules
  • Providing general administrative assistance to management including the handling of normal business office communications such as phone calls, emails, and correspondence
  • Providing general office administration functions and other related duties
  • Manage vendor relationships and enquiries
  • Assisting the Finance Team and other staff in the execution of financial transaction and reporting tasks, including insurance procedures
  • Sorting, compiling, filing and retrieving correspondence, reports, records and other documentation from CWL’s record management system
  • Supporting other staff in executing assigned tasks
  • Providing coverage for staff absences due to illness, vacation or other leave
  • Preparation and assistance with annual audit activities and interactions with external auditors
  • Complete other tasks assigned by the Financial Controller due to changing business environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The AP/AR Analyst will possess:
  • Grade 12 high school diploma and an office/business administration Diploma along with a minimum 2 years of experience in an accounting environment
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and knowledge of Statutory accounting principles
  • Familiarity with GL interface and accounts reconciliation
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Excel and MS Word
  • Strong sense of integrity and professionalism
  • Experience with accounting software and journal entries
  • Comfortable in a changing environment
  • Time management skills and the ability to balance multiple deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at various levels, in a discreet, diplomatic, positive and professional manner
  • A high degree of tact and sensitivity in dealing with matters of a confidential nature
  • A high degree of initiative, teamwork and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Distinct problem-solving abilities with great attention to detail
  • Team player with a positive attitude that works well in a group environment
  • Commitment to continuous professional development: participates in educational opportunities, maintains current knowledge of professional best practices, and maintains professional networks.
  • Experience with Reflex ERP would be an asset
Education and Experience:
  • Formal Education: Highschool diploma and College diploma
  • Profession Designation: No professional designation required
  • Minimum Experience: 1-3 Years
