Job Description

Established in 1993, Y Newcomer Connections is a leading immigrant settlement centre focused on creating connections that will transform our community into a lasting, healthy home for immigrants from around the world and from all walks of life.The Opportunity:The Bridge is a well curated 3-part program that will focus on Language and class content, labour market readiness training, experiential learning, and community engagement for newcomer high school students.The Project Coordinator will be expected to work closely with NBMC and other immigrant settlement agencies (ISAs) staff as required and needed.The Project Coordinator reports directly to the Supervisor of Employment at the YMCA of Greater Saint John but is also accountable to and responsible for submitting financial, and activity reports to the Project Manager for the Project, who sits on the New Brunswick Multicultural Council (based in Fredericton). This position works closely with all Y Newcomer Connections staff to foster and maintain external relationships and build capacity in the community to train and hire newcomers. This position also contributes to the strategic mandate of the YMCA of Greater Saint John, particularly with respect to initiatives around youth support and around Diversity and Social Inclusion (DSI).The nature and scope of this position is such that a close relationship has to be maintained with the Director of Employment Initiatives and the Skills Launch Provincial Program Manager at the New Brunswick Multicultural Council, as well as with other project team members.Responsibilities:

  • Plan and instruct sessions focused on Labour Market Readiness Training, Workplace English, Experiential Learning and Community Engagement;
  • Develop individual language and skills acquisition plans based on technical language and workplace terminology required for job placements;
  • Participant case management, including problem-solving;
  • Provide digital literacy support to participants;
  • Complete progress reports for each participant;
  • Collaborate with other team members on participant progress;
  • Secure and monitor summer work placements and mentorship for participants;
  • Coordinate with employers;
  • Provide job coaching and problem-solving support during work placement; and,
  • Conduct twelve-week post-project follow-ups with participants.
  • Prepare the end-of-project report and do project close-out activities;
  • Contribute to the development of a 360-support framework for newcomers;
  • Contribute to YMCA Strategic Initiatives, such as Diversity and Social Inclusion;
  • Input and maintain client records, including clients achievement and program attendance records, in the Y Newcomer Connections CRM database, as directed by the Manager of Newcomer Programming;
  • Submit reports as requested by the Manager of Newcomer Programming;
  • Prepare monthly reports and quarterly roll-up reports for NBMC;
  • Prepare the end-of-project report and perform project close-out activities;
  • Conduct post-project follow-up with participants and outcome reports as required by funders;
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings;
  • Identify and participate in appropriate professional development opportunities as approved by the GM of Newcomer Connections;
  • Work closely with other sites’ Coordinators and Project Managers in developing standardized content for all phases of the program;
  • Oversee Workplace Essential Skills and Language Instructor’s teaching materials, curriculum and assessment tools for participants
  • Other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience (project coordination/management);
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English required; French an asset;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism and attention to detail is necessary;
  • Can demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills;
  • Can work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability and willingness to maintain flexible work hours
  • Flexible, outgoing and prepared to take on new tasks;
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 suite and eager to learn new technology
  • Confident presentation skills
  • Approachable and possessing a strong client-centric attitude.
