Job Description

Are you passionate about enriching the lives of children A creative and innovative individual who enjoys planning An individual who is driven to create an inclusive, safe and engaging environmentIf you have answered yes to any of these questions and are looking for your next challenge, we encourage you to apply for the Child Care and After School Coordinator role with the YMCA of Greater Saint John!The OpportunityAs the Coordinator, you will ensure that all children and programs provide quality care, service and support to the participants and their families. You will provide assistance to the Supervisor in the set-up and day-to-day operational activities, including the management and supervision of a staff team. You will provide support in the leadership and stability in the development and direct delivery of programs.Responsibilities

  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care Facilities Standards. Plans and implements a consistent child-centred program in accordance with YMCA and New Brunswick standards.
  • Understands and complies with YMCA Playing to Learn Curriculum and the New Brunswick Curriculum Framework.
  • Work directly with staff and oversee: site checks, follow up on inspection requirements, programming and staff interaction, as well as documentation, record keeping and addressing any issues that may arise.
  • Perform administrative duties, which include; registration, communicating withdrawals and managing any issues that may arise.
  • Understands, follows and promotes YMCA Child Protection policies and procedures with staff and within the centre.
  • Assist with training all new and current staff inside the centre to ensure they are knowledgeable and well-trained in their duties with the Y.
  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care facilities standards, Child Protection and Abuse Protocols.
  • Plans and implements a consistent child-centred program in accordance with YMCA and New Brunswick standards.
  • Understanding the YMCA Healthy Child Development Program and incorporating it into programming would be considered an asset.
  • Will be required to provide in-room coverage for vacation, illness, break coverage, etc.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to children’s learning and is responsive to research. Coordinators will be required to be adaptable and flexible to the changes which are brought forward on a daily basis within the operations of the centre as well as the YMCA of Greater Saint John as a whole.
  • Build relationships with children and their families to better understand their specific needs in order to plan effective strategies.
Skills and qualifications
  • ECE Certificate or equivalent training.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in Child Care, After School or Youth programs.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, particularly regarding split shifts and site locations.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including written and verbal.
  • A strong belief in working as a member of a team, sharing and receiving feedback.
  • Experience in recruitment, hiring, performance management and training of staff is considered an asset.
  • Computer literate and able to function within Microsoft Office and Windows environment.
  • Current First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain.
