Job Description

The Opportunity:You will administer the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s Health, Membership and Recreation (HMR)/Irving Oil Field House (IOFH) communications, marketing and social media strategies and ensure that they are of the highest quality, reflect the mission of the Y and contribute to the fulfillment of the goals and objectives of the Y. You will take all actions appropriate to fulfilling the described functions. Such actions will be consistent with the practices and policies of the YMCA of Greater Saint John. You will report to the Supervisor of Marketing and Communications.Responsibilities:
  • Support the development of the YMCA outreach and marketing plans for HMR, Membership Growth Initiative (MGI), and IOFH.
  • Maintain & update online marketing & communications strategy/branding guidelines, including website, program schedules, social media, apps, and other platforms while coordinating with stakeholders across the YMCA Association to ensure effectiveness.
  • Create and distribute monthly newsletters, e-blast communications, and Y Stories.
  • Generating written and graphic design content for web, social media, promotional items, calendars, press releases, fact sheets, etc., as required.
  • Execute annual HMR/MGI marketing and communications plan and annual IOFH marketing and communications plan.
  • Updating our stock photos and videos on a monthly basis by taking new photos and videos at both the Saint John Regional Y and IOFH sites and removing older photos from circulation.
  • Review signage at both sites and update as needed. Updating includes design work and ordering sign materials if done out-of-house.
  • Developing and delivering promotional and marketing materials, including signage, posters, brochures, banners, , sometimes in collaboration with other agencies or partners.
  • Supporting the organization of events and activities that raise awareness of the work of HMR/IOFH, and promote community engagement; including booking venues, scheduling timeline of events, speakers, and participants, publicize events, collaborating with community partners, etc.
  • Keeping an inventory of HMR/IOFH communications and event materials.
  • Work with HMR/IOFH Managers when sites have job openings to fill (social media, ads, posters, signage, etc.)
  • Ensuring brand guidelines and consistent messaging across units are upheld.
  • Communicate with community partners on a regular basis and provide them with communications and marketing materials to raise awareness of HMR/IOFH. Participate in relevant stakeholder meetings, working groups, and committees.
  • Provide information as required for internal/external reports, proposals, grants etc.
  • Manage and monitor IOFH social media channels and all HMR social media Groups.
  • Research trends, developments and best practices with respect to online and traditional communications and marketing.
  • Identify and implement marketing strategies to support HMR/IOFH programs and services. Ensure appropriate resources are dedicated to marketing and communication projects and ensure overall quality and timely delivery.
  • Provide assistance and support with revenue development opportunities for the annual Strong Communities campaign.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Represents the YMCA of Greater Saint John in a professional manner both in terms of relationships and documents circulated.
  • Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism.
  • Self manages personal professional development and work that needs to be completed.
  • Models appropriate behaviours in line with the YMCA of Greater Saint Johns mission, vision, and values; establishes rapport and maintains effective relationship-building behaviour with staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings as requested.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • A Bachelors Degree, Community College diploma or similar from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with current Content Management System and email management platform.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Proven ability to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team and with external vendors.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills with a firm grasp on the nuances between print and digital copy.
  • Superior attention to detail, with demonstrated excellence in editing and proofreading.
  • Experience in photography and video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro).
  • Graphic design experience (Adobe InDesign, Canva).
  • Ability to maintain a consistent look and feel across all print and web properties.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and schedule original, interesting, and relevant messages for various social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, to communicate mission and mandate to the public, as well as inform them about projects, activities, and events.
  • Established experience in developing and monitoring social media content and trends; proficient in using related software.
  • Exceptional communication (both oral and written) and organizational skills.
  • Evidence of English language proficiency required, with a minimum of a 6 benchmark in IELTS. Knowledge of other languages is considered an asset.
  • Heightened sensitivity to the needs of YMCA members and user groups..

  • Participate in all mandatory trainings and attends all staff meetings in department and within the YMCA.
  • Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy in both specific position and Association, and participate in the Annual Campaign and/or other fundraising events.
