Job Description

Headstart to Employment NavigatorThe Saint John Multicultural and Newcomers Resource Centre Inc. (SJMNRC) is seeking a dynamic full-time Headstart to Employment Navigator to join our team.About Us: The Saint John Multicultural and Newcomers Resource Centre Inc. (SJMNRC) is a non-profit organization that provides an integrated approach to services for newcomers. The SJMNRC commonly known as The Saint John Newcomers Centre (SJNC), is a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious organization. Founded in 2009, the purpose of the SJNC is to improve the cultural, social, and economic well-being of citizens and newcomers of all backgrounds to Greater Saint John and to promote equality for all cultural groups.The objectives of the SJNC are:

  • To collaborate between service providers and volunteer-run organizations serving the communities of the Greater Saint John area to further interests of newcomers;
  • To celebrate multiculturalism within our region;
  • To promote equality for all ethno-cultural groups;
  • To serve as a central location where all citizens and newcomers to our region can gain access to community services and information;
  • To foster a welcoming and supportive environment.
*This project is supported by New Brunswick Multicultural Council.*Summary of Role: The Headstart to Employment and Skills Development Project is a new initiative designed to help newcomers serving agencies and community partners in the Saint John, Fredericton and Moncton regions and in the rural communities of New Brunswick, establish and develop capacity in the following areas:
  • Enhancing pre-employment supports by the development of a set of services, providing newcomers a head start to the New Brunswick labour market (pre- and post-arrival).
  • Enhancing employers capacity and supports to promote inclusive work environments, improve capacity to attract, recruit and retain immigrant talent.
  • Strengthening collaboration, partnership, and efficacy in the continuum of employment services through the development of process mapping, setting measures of success and a mixture of engagements with New Brunswick partners, working at the system-level to strengthen collaboration, learnings, partnership, data collection and sharing and action planning to address gaps and opportunities to better support newcomers and immigrants seeking employment in New Brunswick.
  • Support in mapping out pathways to employment for newcomers and immigrants facing barriers such as underemployment, credential recognition, language needs or other.
This position is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the above project activities, and will involve research and putting forward recommendations of best practices and tools implemented nationally and internationally.During the course of the contract the Pre-Employment Liaison Officer will be responsible for project and event planning and coordination, and coordinating with project team and partners in all communities where the program is delivered. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a vibrant growing organization making a meaningful change for immigrants in New Brunswick.The Headstart to Employment Navigator will be expected to work closely with the SJMNRC and other Immigrant Settlement Agencies (ISAs) staff and partners as required and needed.The nature and scope of this position is such that a close relationship has to be maintained with the Managing Director of SJMNRC, as well as with other project team members.DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
  • Local coordination of all training and participant workshops with appropriate Research of tools and best practices
  • Preparation of project materials;
  • Assist with creating a standardized set of tools and services in partnership with the SJMNRC, immigrant settlement agencies and WorkingNB
  • Promotion of the project, including partnerships development;
  • Participate in tracking and recording progress and results of clients registered for the service;
  • Develop and coordinate facilitation of pre-arrival services, while working closely with Working NB;
  • Coordinator details and logistics for meetings and events, which may include promoting, note taking and follow up;
  • Work with project budget and ensure it is adhered to;
  • Assist with securing sponsorship, including drafting and managing correspondence with potential sponsors;
  • Support general SJMNRC and immigrant serving agency operations, including assistance with events, outreach, and projects when necessary;
  • Coordination with employer organizations/sector councils and employers;
  • Preparing monthly reports and quarterly roll-up reports for SJMNRC;
  • Prepare the end of project report and do project close-out activities;
  • Other duties as required.
